The Assistant Registrar for Compliance and Certification is responsible for all duties associated
with academic student-athlete compliance and certification and Veterans Affairs Office
compliance and certification and will ensure accurate, timely, and reliable compliance with
institutional policies and regulations related to athletics academic eligibility and Veterans
Benefits at Emory & Henry College.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student-Athlete Compliance and Certification:

• Collaborates with the Emory & Henry Department of Athletics and other offices, as appropriate, to determine academic eligibility and to certify student-athletes for practice and competition, ensuring compliance with all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), South Atlantic Conference (SAC), and institutional requirements.
• Produces reports to monitor, track and report academic eligibility and progress toward degree completion for all continuing student-athletes.
• Monitors full-time enrollment status of all student-athletes.
• Inputs relevant academic eligibility information into ARMS compliance software.
• Verifies accuracy of academic information uploaded into ARMS from the College’s student information systems.
• Serves as liaison between academic advisors, athletics administration, faculty, and other College academic units.
• Evaluates transcripts of all potential transfer student-athletes to determine academic eligibility and certifies eligibility for all incoming transfer student-athletes.
• Educates Office of the Registrar staff members on the application of NCAA legislation related to academic eligibility certification.
• Adheres to student confidentiality rights as legislated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) in handling academic records and responding to third-party requests.
• Serves as an active, contributing member of the college’s Athletics Compliance Committee and the Certification Committee.
• Maintains accurate student-athlete table in college’s student information system.
• Completes related duties as required.

Veteran Affairs Compliance and Certification:

• Serves as the primary School Certifying Official for Veterans Benefits.
• Submits yearly academic catalog approvals to the VA and other required VA reporting initiatives.
• Oversees the activities of the Veteran Affairs Office (VA), including supervision of academic
  records staff engaged in creating and maintaining all relevant VA student records for the College, processing of VA debts, and ensuring the accurate posting and certifications to the VA student records each semester.
• Advises students on any academic requirement or changes made by the US Department of Veteran Affairs regarding their educational benefits.
• Works with academic advisors on matters concerning all students using their GI Bill educational benefits.
• Assumes all the VA School Certifying Official duties for the Department of VA and Emory & Henry College.
• Maintains status as a Federal Level School Certifying Official.
• Processes all VA educational and military-related benefits pertaining to the State of Virginia and Federal Public Law to include Title 38 U.S.C., Chapters 30, 31, and 33.
• Collaborates with the Office of Financial Aid to determine tuition certification amounts and post benefits to student accounts.
• Adheres to student confidentiality rights as legislated by FERPA in handling all academic records and responding to third-party requests.
• Related duties as required.

About our ideal candidate

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of four (4) years of office experience (preferably in higher education) working with complex data and/or information technology that support records (preferably student records) and services in a team environment involving customer service.
• Experience interpreting and processing policies and regulations.

Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to perform business and systems requirements analyses and extract information from databases to create reports, data analytics, and visualization.
• Competency in providing training to individuals and groups.
• Knowledge of college or university Office of the Registrar operations preferred.
• High degree of decision-making and professional judgment in assuring compliance with policies.
