Job Summary
The Assistant Sailing Coach will be responsible for all assisting the head coach in all aspects of the development and administration of a competitive varsity collegiate sailing program. The program will be conducted in accordance with all Jacksonville University, Intercollegiate Sailing (ICSA) rules, regulations and policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Duties/Responsibilities
Budgeting and accounting for the team’s finances
Recruiting student athletes for the Varsity Sailing Team
Planning and implementing team practices and regattas
Developing competition-specific sailing skills in a professional, safe, and responsible manner
Hosting events related to the Varsity Sailing Team
Maintenance of the fleet of sailboats, powerboats and facilities
Other related duties related to the growth of sailing at Jacksonville University
Required Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of current Racing Rules of Sailing
Knowledge of the College Sailing Procedural Rules
Advanced College Dinghy Sailing and Coaching Skills
Motor/Coach Boat operation
Ability to travel and work on weekends
Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience
US Sailing Level 1 or 2
Red Cross CPR/First Aid
Bachelor’s Degree
Valid Driver’s License
Minimum 2 years coaching experience
Physical Requirements
Must be able to drive Small Coach Boats and Sail Small Boats at a high level
Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach
Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
