Job Summary
The Assistant Sailing Coach will be responsible for all assisting the head coach in all aspects of the development and administration of a competitive varsity collegiate sailing program. The program will be conducted in accordance with all Jacksonville University, Intercollegiate Sailing (ICSA) rules, regulations and policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Duties/Responsibilities
- Budgeting and accounting for the team’s finances
- Recruiting student athletes for the Varsity Sailing Team
- Planning and implementing team practices and regattas
- Developing competition-specific sailing skills in a professional, safe, and responsible manner
- Hosting events related to the Varsity Sailing Team
- Maintenance of the fleet of sailboats, powerboats and facilities
- Other related duties related to the growth of sailing at Jacksonville University
Required Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of current Racing Rules of Sailing
- Knowledge of the College Sailing Procedural Rules
- Advanced College Dinghy Sailing and Coaching Skills
- Motor/Coach Boat operation
- Ability to travel and work on weekends
Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience
- US Sailing Level 1 or 2
- Red Cross CPR/First Aid
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Driver’s License
- Minimum 2 years coaching experience
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to drive Small Coach Boats and Sail Small Boats at a high level
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
- Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
