Job Title: Assistant Coach - Softball
Department: Athletics
Reports To: Head Coach
Supervises Directly: Student manager, if applicable.
FLSA Status: Part-time, non-exempt
SUMMARY - GENERAL PURPOSE
Serve as assistant coach and assist in team operations management and coaching of student-athletes, including the recruitment of students for the program.

WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Serves as a member of the Department of Athletics. Reports to the Head Coach. Assists with the recruitment and supervision of student managers, if applicable. Must work effectively on a regular basis with members of the faculty and staff members in Athletics, Admissions, Student Affairs, Alumni Relations, Development and other College offices.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION
Minimum qualifications include a bachelorâs degree and a commitment to the values, standards, and expectations of NCAA Division III athletics and a liberal arts college. An accomplished background in sports program, preferably at the collegiate level.

Must have valid Virginia driverâs license and insurance coverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable if expected to drive College/rental vehicles on school business.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of sport program techniques and strategies. General knowledge and/or willingness to learn, NCAA rules and conference policies and procedures. Good communication skills including effective verbal and written abilities. Solid organizational and leadership skills. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, faculty and coaches. Ability to positively influence public relations between the athletic department, the campus, and the community. Computer and database skills helpful.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Travel may be required. Frequent weekend and evening hours are required. Working environment includes both indoors and outdoors, and exposure to various weather conditions, including temperature extremes. Indoor work environment may not be air conditioned during hot weather. Must have the physical ability to walk, lift up to 30 pounds, run, bend, twist, climb, see, hear, and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
