This position will be responsible for assisting the Head Softball coach by preparing and conducting team practices, training, competition game planning, and recruiting. The person will also assist in daily softball operations to include but not limited to travel arrangements, facility arrangements, equipment, and office work.
• Develop performance standards for student-athletes to maximize their potential and achieve high levels of competition; • Assess athletic performance and improvement and provide feedback and guidance regarding athletic progress; • Develop high expectations for student-athletes to achieve in the classroom as well as on the playing venue; • Develop and implement practice plans and strategies for athletic events; • Supervise NMHU athletic events and enforce sportsmanship standards; • Assist with game management for home events when not competing; • Assist with developing and supervising community service events; • Supervise student-athletes during road trips; • Provide positive participation with events that will benefit the athletic experience for the student-athletes; • Participate in the planning of as well as participate in fundraising activities for individual programs and for the athletic department in general; • Adhere to NCAA, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and institutional rules and regulations; • Organize, prepare, and conduct team practices, training and competition; • Recruit potential student athletes; • Provide academic monitoring and support for student athletes in the program • Provide support to the Head Softball Coach as required; • Maintain regular attendance; • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in any field EXPERIENCE: Previous high school and/or college softball experience. Experience as a softball student-athlete will be accounted for.
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in any field EXPERIENCE: Collegiate playing or coaching experience, preferably in the RMAC.
• Complete NCAA Coaches Certification Curriculum within first two (2) weeks of employment; • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and odd hours.
• Understanding of NCAA and RMAC rules and regulations • Knowledge of and adherence to all University, NCAA, and RMAC rules and regulations, policies and procedures, with special attentions to recruiting, eligibility, admissions, and financial aid • Possess good management skills • Ability to understand the goals and responsibilities of running a successful athletic program at the NCAA Division II level • Represent the University in a professional and responsible manner; excellent interpersonal skills • Adherence to and appreciation for NCAA/conference/league regulations and ability to instill those values in subordinates and students • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgement based on an understanding or organizational polices and activities
