Carleton College, a highly selective, nationally-ranked liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota, seeks to hire a full-time Assistant Softball Coach / Athletic Events Coordinator. The successful candidate will be actively involved in the recruitment, retention, and day-to-day operations of the softball program. This position will also organize home athletic events, student workers, staff and operations for Carleton varsity sports.

This is a full-time, twelve-month staff position who reports to the Associate Athletic Director.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

• Organize, prepare, and conduct safe and strategic individual and team training sessions and competitive strategies with the head coach.
• Execute appropriate coaching decisions during practice and competition that ensure the welfare of the student athletes representing their program.
• Understand and support students who are balancing multiple responsibilities as students and athletes in a rigorous academic environment.
• Under the head coach, collaborate on a comprehensive recruiting plan that demonstrates successful results for the recruitment, yield and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
• Work closely with the Associate Athletic Director, sports information director and head coaches in planning and executing game day operations, including hiring, supervising and training student and staff event workers, organizing officials and directing game managers for 80+ home athletic events as the lead coordinator.

Education/Experience/Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field is required College coaching and/or playing experience is strongly preferred
  • Designing and implementing tactical practice and competition plans
  • Fostering a positive, organized and enriching experience for the student athletes
  • Ability to effectively teach high-level skills and strategies
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able organize and interact functionally, orally and in writing, with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff, with a commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity.
• The ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented office environment and interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the public
• Strong organizational and mentoring skills
• Valid driver’s license (required)
