The primary purpose of the Assistant Softball Coach and Pitching Game Coordinator is to play an integral role in the effective operation of the softball program, develop young women in the North Central College softball philosophy, to direct aspects of the overall softball program strategy including recruitment, development, and retaining student-athletes. The assistant softball coach will also work with the Director and Assistant Director of Athletics helping further develop, implement, and evaluate components of departmental athletic events and leadership programs.
Serve as the Pitching Game Coordinator for the softball program. Develop a comprehensive softball pitching game plan. Set and plan for the accomplishment of overall softball and specific position goals for first-year and transfer softball players. Train, assign and evaluate the pitching work with coaching staff.
Assist with recruiting for softball and act as the liaison to the admission office, developing appropriate budgets, marketing and personnel for softball recruiting projects and programs. Maintain active communication with the admission staff and through phone, in-person, and electronic means.
Assist with the organization and participate in all on-campus recruiting activities including all admissions Visit Days. Organize official and unofficial campus and overnight visits.
Coach all the pitchers and any other position if needed. Help organize standard practices and develop individual players in those positions.
Develop game day preparations, in conjunction with the entire coaching staff, by analyzing film, designing strategies, communicating with players in the specialty area and writing reports. Execute game day preparation; analyze game performance primarily in the specialty area with players in designated positions.
Act as an additional supervisor for graduate assistant and/or team manager(s). Develop job descriptions, train, evaluate, and supervise the team manager(s).
Help develop and organize promotional activities for the softball program including newsletters for Faculty Mentor Program, Parent’s Day activities, alumni activities, Senior Day activities, fund-raisers during the academic year, summer camps, and other marketing and promotional activities.
Develop and implement an on-going professional development plan as it relates to softball in general, recruiting and the softball specialty area.

Specific knowledge of softball and advanced knowledge of a particular softball specialty.

Skill in communicating with college student-athletes, their parents and other coaching professionals. Ability to effectively recruit qualified student-athletes. Ability to effectively counsel and advise prospective students and their parents regarding numerous aspects of the College. Ability to exercise the proper balance of persistence and patience as individually appropriate to each contact.
Strong commitment to a small college environment. Extensive knowledge of the organization and operation of the College, both administratively and academically, especially regarding admission-related activities. Up-to-date knowledge of developments in higher education in general and at schools with which North Central College traditionally competes for new students.
Ability to develop successful programs which engage student-athletes and coaches in developing student-athlete leaders.
Ability to deal with several tasks and work with a large number of individuals concurrently, often without direct supervision. This requires a person who is well organized, detail oriented, flexible and able to effectively prioritize tasks.
Ability to communicate in the English language, both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, including direction of and participation in the development of high-quality publications which reflect positively on North Central College.
Ability to consistently demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the College, both on the telephone and in person.
Promotion of a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work and living environment. Engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

The assistant softball coach must be able to effectively coach, recruit, travel, operate within fiscal boundaries, develop and maintain relationships with student athletes, parents, fans, and campus faculty/staff. The assistant softball coach must also be able to creatively and effectively develop strategies and programming that will allow student athletes to reach their full potential in softball and as students.
Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Progressive coaching and/or competitive experience in the position or sport.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record preferred.
