Position Summary

The Assistant Softball Coach-Assistant/Recruiting Coordinator is responsible for serving in all phases of a competitive Division 1 softball program in accordance with the University of the Incarnate Word, Southland Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. This position also assists in the daily management of all recruiting functions.  The Assistant Softball Coach-2nd Assistant reports to Head Softball Coach.

Job Duties

- Assist the head coach in managing and directing the softball program. - Assist the head coach with all aspects of the team, including training, competing, and scheduling. - Coordinate scouting and video exchange. - Assist with recruiting, including calling prospective student-athletes, evaluating high school and potential junior college and transfer student-athletes, to include in-person off campus evaluations, phone calls, zooms, facetime and emailing, plus on campus evaluations and visits for all junior college and transfer student-athletes. - Assist in scheduling all recruiting trips and coordinating game schedules for all potential junior college and transfer student-athletes. - Schedule and coordinate on-campus visits for all potential junior college and transfer student-athletes. - Assist with all uploading of transcripts evaluations in ARMs and review all returned evaluations from Registrar’s Office. - Organize game management reports. - Organize and maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms. - Coordinate team travel arrangements. - Assist with fundraising and community service. - Complete assigned administrative duties. - Work cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attend department meetings and activities, and always represent the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public. - Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must have good communication skills necessary to direct recruiting efforts through fall and spring signing periods. - Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed. - Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public. - Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, via social media and in writing. - Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner. - Ability to effectively market and promote UIW softball. - Ability to effectively conduct live batting practice. - Ability to consistently follow the Mission of the University. - Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. - Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

- Typical for coach in this sport to include ability to lift equipment or materials weight up to 25 lbs waist high. - Ability to effectively move about to appropriately demonstrate plays and drills in this sport, as well as sideline coach during games.
