BASIC PURPOSE: The Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach will support and assist the Head Strength and Conditioning coach in all development and management of a comprehensive NCAA Division II of athletic strength and conditioning program as a component of the University experience, which enhances and supports the students’ Assumption education. Duties will include the development, supervision, and facilitation of strength and conditioning training of both men and women student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs.
Assist in the day-to-day operations of strength and conditioning within Assumption University, NE10 Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Works directly to oversee strength and conditioning activities of assigned sports.
Design research-based programs that foster strength and power through efficient movement patterns to reduce risk of injury and improve athletic performance. Conduct team training sessions including but not limited to; resistance training, recovery modalities, speed, agility and change of direction development.
Demonstrate proper techniques for resistance training, Olympic lifting, speed, and agility training while maintaining a safe-training environment
Support the Strength and Conditioning team by assisting with training sessions, small group training during open hours, performance testing, and weight room scheduling.
Collaborate with Head Strength and Conditioning coach, Assistant Strength and Conditioning coaches, and interns to maximize athletic development and promote athletic success.
Maintain regular communication with sports coaches regarding Student-Athlete performance, needs, and testing data to promote athletic excellence. Communicate and collaborate with Athletic Training staff on Student-Athlete injuries, modifications, and return-to-play protocols.
Prioritizes attendance at University events such as: Student-Athlete Candle Light, Hall of Fame Dinner, Athletics Awards Night, Orientation, Graduation, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
Bachelor’s required/Master’s preferred, specializing in exercise science or related field preferred.
Minimum 1-year experience in the field of strength and conditioning with collegiate athletes
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or similar certification
Possess current CPR and First Aid Certification/Automated External Defibrillator
Excellent computer skills
Excellent communication, organizational, managerial, and clinical skills
SCOPE:
Variable working hours, including evenings/weekends.
Operates and maintains a variety of training and conditioning equipment
Interacts daily with students/athletes, other University administrators, parents and physicians, and other health professionals;
Oversees the daily operations of the Strength and Conditioning Department
Supervises professional staff and student employees.
