Baker University Department of Athletics seeks qualified applicants for an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, located on the Baldwin City, Kansas, campus. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will be responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of strength and conditioning programs for all university-sponsored sports. This is a 12-month, full-time position with the expectation to work with assigned teams and programs (M/W basketball, M/ W soccer, assist with football and other teams as assigned) in all phases of a year-round athletic development program.
Duties include but are not limited to program design, and implementation of training programs to optimize performance and decrease injury potential of assigned teams. Assisting with the oversight of sport-specific conditioning programs; teaching proper weight lifting, speed, agility, and conditioning techniques; encouraging and motivating student-athletes to train and perform to their potential. Maintain a positive and competitive training environment, schedule athletic teams for training sessions, player development, and assessment; travel for strength and conditioning conferences and clinics and certification programs. Understand compliance with university, Heart Conference, and NAIA regulations. Provide supervision for the Shore Weight Room and ensure that the environment is safe and equipment is cleaned and properly maintained. Maintain records and workout schedules for all programs. Regularly communicate with the athletic training staff regarding injuries, injury prevention planning, and player-specific modifications to programs. Uphold the highest standards of injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return to play of student-athletes in collaboration with the athletic training staff. Provide nutritional guidance for assigned teams at the level qualified for individual student -athletes as needed, working closely with the athletic training staff and coaches.
Job Requirements
The candidate should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with preference given to a master’s degree in physical education, physiology, sport science, or related field of study. NSCA and/or CSCS certification (or equivalent) if recommended; two to three years related work experience; thorough knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations; must be proficient in the instruction, assessment, evaluation, and supervision of multiple weight lifting techniques; strong communication skills; knowledge of use and maintenance of fitness equipment.
