SUMMARY/SCOPE:
The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will be responsible for implementing strength and conditioning methods and practices with respective Hardin-Simmons University sports as well as assisting the head strength and conditioning coach with day-to-day operations such as cleaning, organizing, scheduling, and ensuring proper communication is consistent with all affiliated university staff and administration. Each assistant must be an outstanding citizen with the utmost character and desire to develop athletes physically, mentally, and spiritually.
HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These examples do not include all possible tasks and do not limit the assignment of related tasks.
Assist Head Strength and Conditioning Coach with on field practice and game assistance.
Supervise graduate assistant and student workers.
Organize and instruct training sessions among all assigned university sports- including, but not limited to strength training, speed and agility techniques, proper conditioning training, injury prevention, and overall well-being of every Hardin Simmons University athlete.
Be able to use applicable technology including Microsoft Excel, Teambuildr, and social media for department purposes.
Organize and keep track of weight room cleaning schedules each week.
Develop communication channels among HSU coaches and athletic trainers
Seek opportunities to increase job skills and knowledge.
Exhibit compassion and kindness to all campus communities in actions and words.
Be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, make judgements, and solve problems.
Exhibit trustworthiness and honesty in work and interactions with coaching staff, campus employees, and student athletes.
Always work to improve character skills such as hard work, patience, courage, etc. and integrate a Christian perspective into their work, while encouraging student athletes to do the same.
Encourage young players to grow in their faith while demonstrating positive Christian ideals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisor responsibilities except oversight of student workers including: the graduate student worker/graduate assistant coach and student assistant (if applicable).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree required (prefer in the field of exercise science).
Minimum one year of strength and conditioning experience in intercollegiate athletics required.
Must have proficient computer skills, strong work ethic and effective communication skills as demonstrated through work previous experience.
Must also have excellent organizational skills. Candidates will be required to provide examples of their ability to plan and organize as demonstrated through previous work experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required (or must be obtained).

Also, must be able to demonstrate and perform various strength movements as well as speed and agility techniques as well.
Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time while performing office and gym functions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is an Exempt Level, Professional Staff Position which often requires extended hours beyond a 40-hour work week, especially during the peak season(s) for sports.
Candidate must be able to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends depending on the time of year.
There are afternoon practices during season and competitions and performances in the afternoons and on weekends.
Occasional overnight travel is required, including evenings and weekends, especially during soccer season and recruiting season.
Occasionally holiday work is also required depending on game/practice schedule.
Must be able and willing to complete early morning duties as well as assist in occasional weekend sporting activities. Hours will be based off a flexible schedule so candidates must be readily adaptable to any circumstance or situation.
Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive an automobile and 15-passenger van.
Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Additional travel may be required on occasion in order to attend training, etc.
