Assistant Coach for Strength and Conditioning

Position Description
The Valley City State University Strength and Conditioning department is currently accepting applications for a qualified individual to fill the position of Assistant Coach. The assistant will report directly to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and will be responsible for up to 3 Olympic Sports. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports, communication with sport coaches and athletic training staff, assisting with the VCSU nutrition station, as well as helping implement the overall training programs for all sports.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related field is required. Candidate must be CPR/AED/First Aid Certified.
Preferred Qualifications
Currently hold a CSCS or USAW certification or pursuing one. Previous strength and conditioning internship/coaching experience preferred. Other qualifications include a strong work ethic, ability to show up early and work independently, passion for all facets of training, enthusiasm, creativeness, effective communication skills, and maintain a positive energy.

Hours and Compensation
An average of 20 hours per week, varying shifts. $10,000 annually. Graduate Students are also eligible for tuition and room waivers and a meal stipend.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. A criminal background check will be conducted on all new hires. Preference given to applications received on or before May 27, 2026, and review of applications will continue until the position is filled.

Proof of eligibility includes a copy of NGB 22 from National Guard or Reserve (with a unit located in ND) or certification from the applicant's unit command that the individual is expected to be discharged or released from active duty in the uniformed services under other than dishonorable conditions not later than one hundred twenty days after the date of the submission of the certification. If claiming disabled status, proof of eligibility includes a DD-214 and a current letter of disability.
