Job Description:

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by assisting the Director of Strength and Conditioning (DSC) with the overall administration of the varsity athletic teams and the student fitness center.

Temporary position anticipated end date October 31, 2024.

15 hours per week. Start time between 6:00am - 8:00am.

Essential Functions

1. Prepares varsity athletic team for workouts, primarily in the early morning hours.
2. Implements, supervises, and manages team training programs.
3. Prepares performance reports of athletes to track their progress.
4. Alerts the DSC regarding maintenance issues in need of repair.
5. Communicates with DSC, sports coaches, and athletic trainers regarding athlete Injuries.
6. Assists in cleaning and preventive maintenance, closing for events, and posting notices.
7. Assists in supervision and mentoring volunteer S&C coaches, internship, and work-study students.

Other Functions

1. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
2. Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
3. Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
4. Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
5. Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
6. Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
7. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree is required, and a master's degree is preferred in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Strength & Conditioning, or a related field.
• 1 year of experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach in a collegiate environment is preferred
• Current Certification in S&C: NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) - Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), CSCCA (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association) - Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC), NCSF (National Council on Strength and Fitness) - Certified Strength Coach.
• AED/CPR and First Aid certification is required.
• Knowledge of NCAA Rules and Regulations related to S&C.
• Comfortable speaking to both small and large groups of athletes and coaches.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook)
• Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 55 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
• Work some evening or weekend hours

Environmental Conditions

• Indoor work at a computer workstation and gym; outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Medium level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
