POSITIONS PURPOSE

Concordia University-Texas Track and Cross Country is looking for an Assistant Track and Field Coach to specialize in coaching the Throws (Shot, Discus, Weight, Hammer, Javelin). The part-time assistant coach is primarily responsible for teaching proper techniques and skill development. Position responsibilities include planning and executing instructional practice sessions, facilitating discipline-specific lessons and attending meets. Other responsibilities may include monitoring academic progress of student athletes, recruitment of student athletes and other athletic support functions.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

• Planning and conducting practices for athletes competing in various throwing events
• Evaluation and recruitment of qualified prospective student athletes
• Ability to work weekdays and weekends as needed
• Design, supervise and execute specific training plans for track and field teams
• Assist with fund-raising projects for track and field team and the department
• Assist with maintaining accurate records of expenses incurred while working within the budget provided
• Assist with maintaining daily and yearly inventory of equipment, uniforms and supplies
• Assist with driving of Vans to Competition Sites.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & PRINCIPLES

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Knowledge of techniques and workouts for throwing events (certifications preferred)
• A motor vehicle driving record acceptable to CTX is required.
• Ability to drive team vehicles to necessary sites

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

• A bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
• Preference will be given to those candidates that have coaching and/or competitive experience in throwing events at the collegiate level and certifications.
• A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required; One year of college level athletic coaching is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• The position requires the ability to stand for an extended period of time.
• The ability to lift 20-30 pounds.
• The ability to travel long distances via automobile and/or airplane.
• A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
