North Carolina Wesleyan University is a four-year, Liberal Arts University located in Rocky Mount, NC. We are inviting applications for a full-time Assistant to the AD for Academic Intervention and Student-athlete Support. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Assistant AD for Student Welfare and Senior Woman Administrator. This is a two-year grant funded position by the NCAA that includes a base salary, housing, and meals during the fall and spring semester that also includes funded professional development opportunities. A graduate school tuition waiver is also available. Anticipated start date: August 1, 2024.

Summary
As a member of the athletic department, the position will work together with support services from across campus to serve student-athletes. This effort will include weekly meetings with students with a particular focus on academic success and strategies for first-year students. The position will also provide leadership opportunities and experiences to support our student-athletes. The position is designed to develop the employee with training opportunities at various NCAA and USA South Conference events.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. In collaboration with the Vice President and Director of Athletics, the Student Success Center, and various offices around campus coordinates the student-athlete academic support services, including peer tutors, study tables, writing center support, mentor programs and advisee support.
  2. Sets up weekly meetings with academically at-risk students to coordinate positive outcomes.
  3. Create and lead an early intervention program for first year students to focus on student academic success that builds personal commitment and strategies for success.
  4. In coordination with the Vice President and Director of Athletics, the Provost, and Director of the Student Success Center, develops and implements leadership programming to build mentors to support our diverse student-athlete population.
  5. Serve on the Athletic Department leadership team.
