Position Summary
This position assists the women’s volleyball head coach at practices, games, recruiting, team travel, public relations, and all phases of the program as needed. Performs assistant coaching duties operating under the NCAA Division II bylaws and regulations. Serves as an assistant coach for the beach volleyball program in the spring season and game administrator at Chaminade men’s and women’s home basketball games.
Person will be required to become familiar with and adhere to Chaminade University policies, NCAA rules pertaining to institutional control and compliance, the Pacific West (PacWest) Conference, and NCAA Division II philosophies. Person must be committed to a philosophy that emphasizes the pursuit of excellence in both academics and athletics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching/Teaching (60%)
Teaches required skills to student-athletes during individual and team practices, training, and competition, as directed by the Head Coach.
Teaches other skills that promote safety, injury prevention, etc., that enhance the performance of student-athletes as directed by the Head Coach.
Teaches rules, game strategy, etc., as directed by the Head Coach.
Uploads and downloads game films and score sheets using the VolleyMetrics film program to review and teach skills.
Creates stat sheets to record statistics during practice and matches. Creates a system to compile stat sheets from practices and matches throughout the season.
Scout opponents, watching multiple matches on each opponent, and create offensive and defensive scouting reports for the head coach and team members.
Creates player binders for them to use throughout the season for weekly journals, scouting reports, team handouts, etc. Creates weekly journals and is in charge of weekly team notes.
Maintain knowledge of and the rules of NCAA Division II and the PacWest Conference regarding the sport of indoor and beach volleyball.
Professional development via various means of educational resources.
Recruiting (20%)
Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, phone calls, text messages, emails, social media, letters, and contact with coaches and parents. Reviewing film and any other form of analysis to evaluate prospects.
Travels to appropriate recruiting events during NCAA-approved recruiting periods.
Sends out all recruiting emails to prospective student-athletes with information about the school and program, and schedules Zoom (video) calls to continue the recruiting process and take the next steps in recruiting them to Chaminade.
Assists in planning and organization of recruiting visits (unofficial and official) to include transportation, housing, meals, campus tours, and workout sessions under NCAA guidelines.
Responsible for all paperwork required for unofficial and official visits, working closely with the prospective student-athlete, athletic trainers, and compliance officer. Responsible for creating itineraries for recruits on unofficial and official visits.
Administrative and Promotional Duties (20%)
Works with the head coach to ensure all required compliance reports are completed thoroughly and on time, including CARA reports, practice and recruiting logs, and inputs to the Compliance Assistant program.
Assists the head coach at team meetings, assists with creating agendas for team meetings, updating the program handbook, assists with creating and evolving program values, team culture, program goals, etc.
Assists the head coach in keeping the team calendar and schedule up to date with correct dates and times for various events throughout the year.
Creates spreadsheets for player gear sizes, assists in creating gear orders to send to BSN, collects and double-checks inventories as well, and distributes gear to the team.
Assists the head coach with fundraising activities, including running tournaments, concessions, camps, and clinics, etc.
Assists the head coach with academic follow-up on student-athletes, including class checks, grade checks, attendance checks, and study tables.
In charge of study hall, creating study hall schedules, making sure student-athletes are meeting weekly study hall hour requirements and working closely with the office of student success to ensure student-athletes are continuing to be successful in the classroom.
Creates a class schedule matrix to know when student-athletes have classes to be able to schedule practices, strength training, team events, etc. as well as working with academic advising to be able to block off times for student-athletes to keep open and schedule around various team events.
Monitors prospective student-athletes' applications to the University on Slate, tracking the status of their applications and materials needed to be submitted for acceptance to the University, as well as working with Admissions to ensure prospective student-athletes get admitted to the University.
Assist student-athletes in getting medical and compliance clearance to be able to practice/compete in matches, working closely with Athletic Trainers and Compliance Officer.
Helps build support for the program and increase match attendance by promoting matches to clubs, high schools, volleyball organizations, and other partners. Sends out emails to different organizations that attend matches to get lists of their attendees, coordinates autograph sessions, halftime games with prizes, etc.
Responsible for reserving vans, classrooms, etc., for various team functions and events.
Assist the head coach in requesting practice and match times, working closely with Athletics Facilities and Operations Manager.
Assist the head coach with beach season logistics including matches, tournaments, practices, scheduling, etc.
Assists the head coach in creating graphics and social media content.
Completes proper paperwork for athletics (including expense reports, travel expenses, and reimbursement reports).
Attend all Chaminade Athletic Department meetings, including the required monthly compliance continuing education sessions.
Serves as game administrator at Chaminade men’s and women’s home basketball games.
Performs similar, comparable, or related duties as may be assigned or required

Education and Experience
Minimum
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution required.
One year of volleyball coaching experience, preferably on the collegiate level.
Preferred
Three years of coaching experience at an NCAA Division I or II institution preferred.
Master’s degree preferred
Supervisory experience is preferred

Strong leadership and team-building skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and community members of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google or related software, Teamworks, and especially VolleyMetrics and any other sports-related computer programs.

Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and require a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

This is a full-time, exemptposition. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the department's project cycles and workflow demands, additional hours or changes to the workday schedule may occasionally be required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends, and have a varying schedule when required
