CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Apply NowDirects and provides athletic training coverage and supervision of intercollegiate athletic teams, during practices, games, and strength and conditioning sessions.
Educates student-athletes on general health habits that will assist in injury prevention and overall well-being.
Orders supplies and maintains adequate inventory.
Assists with budget preparation and administration. Evaluates, prevents, treats, and rehabilitates student athletes. Prepares athletes for practice and competition by using assorted taping and wrapping procedures. Oversees student staff coverage of the training room. Maintains and upgrades relevant computer systems, and records treatment and injury information. Provides coverage at home and away athletic events. Maintains knowledge of evidence-based techniques in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by attending clinics and seminars. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with acute, chronic, or potential injuries and illnesses.
Take a thorough history, including but not limited to: chief complaint, vitals, pain score, mechanism of injury, past medical history, and review of systems.
Perform an appropriate physical examination, including but not limited to: range of motion testing, strength/manual muscle testing, neurovascular and sensation testing, palpation, special and ligamentous testing, and functional testing.
Present cases to attending physicians including any available imaging results.
Accurately and appropriately transcribe, enter, and/or execute standing orders at the direction of the supervising physician within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice, including but not limited to: radiographs, MRIs, EMGs, CT scans, ultrasounds, physical therapy, injection procedures, braces, lab work, medication, and physician referrals.
Provide patient education including answering questions and instructing on rehabilitation exercises.
Fit patients with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other orthopaedic appliances/DMEs and educate on proper use. Provide proper information to bracing company for billing.
Perform wound care, gait training, and casting application and removal.
Remove sutures and provide dressing changes to post-operative patients.
Aid the supervising physician in preparing for and administering injections including but not limited to timeouts, preparing and securing signatures on patient informed consents, and preparing supplies.
Complete surgical booking sheets prior to surgery at the attending surgeon’s direction and serve as liaison between patient, surgeon, and surgical coordinator.
Document patient encounters and communicate with patients, other staff, and providers in electronic medical record.
Assist attending physicians with paperwork for patients such as medical leave forms or workers compensation documentation.
Assist in maintaining orderly and professional appearance of clinic.
Assist physicians in developing criteria for appropriate patients and guide patient access representatives to schedule patients accordingly. Filter clinic schedules based on criteria.
Assist physicians and clinic staff with filing charges, billing, and insurance authorizations and appeals as needed.
Serve as a Preceptor, mentor, and/or supervisor for students observing, shadowing, and obtaining clinical experience in sports medicine.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Athletic Trainer Certification
CPR Certification
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Exceptional multi-tasking and prioritization skills
Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
