The Georgia Tech Athletic Associate (GTAA) sponsors varsity intercollegiate athletics competition in 17 NCAA Division I sports for the Georgia Institute of Technology. Job Summary

 

The Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Medicine will assist in leading a successful NCAA Division I athletic medicine program in managing the health and welfare of all intercollegiate student-athletes at Georgia Tech.  This role will also serve as a member of the athletic department's senior staff leadership team that is committed to excellence, integrity and advancing the athletic department's mission and strategic vision. This position is responsible for the direction, supervision and coordination of the healthcare, safety and well-being services offered within the Athletic Medicine Department. This position is responsible for the oversight of assigned sport programs, to include but not limited to injury prevention, evaluation, management and treatment of athletic injuries, short and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education, and counseling of student-athletes. This role is also responsible for athletic related health care administration in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer, team physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel.

Responsibilities

 

Job Duty 1 -
Oversight, development, coordination and administration of a comprehensive Athletic Medicine Program to provide best-in-class medical care and services for all intercollegiate athletics student athletes

Job Duty 2 -
Oversight and supervision of all Athletic Training services and Athletic Trainers. Also responsible for Sports Medicine aides, athletic training interns or fellows

Job Duty 3 -
Oversight and direction of athletic medicine operations and services, budgeting, emergency action plans, rehabilitation services, medical insurance program, and physician medical services

Job Duty 4 -
In conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer/Head Team Physician, responsible for the development, updating, maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures regarding the Athletic Medicine Department

Job Duty 5 -
In conjunction with the Clinical Sports Psychologist, Mental Health Coordinator, Alcohol and Other Drug Coordinator, and the Chief Medical Officer/Head Team Physician, support and assist with coordination of behavioral medicine and mental health services

Job Duty 6 -
Supervision and development for structure and staffing of Athletic Medicine Department, to include goal setting strategies and performance evaluations of full-time and part-time employees within the Athletic Medicine Department

Job Duty 7 -
Develop, execute, and supervise programs and activities related to the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses for assigned sport programs while abiding by the rules and regulations established by the Georgia Tech Athletics Association, its athletic conference affiliates, and National Collegiate Athletics Association rules and regulations

Job Duty 8 -
Provide consistent coverage for practice and competitions and ensure coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

 

Educational Requirements
Master's Degree in Athletic Training or an educational program accredited by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer

Other Required Qualifications
Certifications or licenses required for this job: Certification from the Board for Athletic Trainers, CAATE, NTA or other accredited body for Athletic trainers

Required Experience
Ten or more years of job-related experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

 

ABILITIES
Effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries; use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries; determine the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals; recognize life threatening situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid; fit braces and fabricate orthotics as needed.

KNOWLEDGE
Advanced knowledge and skills in decision making and problem solving, service, integrity, innovation, safety awareness, adaptability, cultural competence, influence, and the administration of a variety of assessment tools, treatment plans and equipment. Must possess a general knowledge of the principles and practices of Athletic Training, Occupational Health and Safety Administration standards, maintaining medical records including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and following insurance procedures

SKILLS
Strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and to serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians and other healthcare professionals
