Job Summary:
The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance will oversee the compliance office staff and operations at St. John’s University, an NCAA Division I member institution, part of the BIG EAST Conference.
The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance will manage and maintain a comprehensive compliance monitoring program to ensure that St. John’s University is in full compliance of NCAA, BIG EAST and St. John’s University rules and regulations. The Associate Athletic Director exercise meaningful compliance oversite for the operations of the athletics program that interact with other offices and department throughout the campus (e.g., admissions, financial aid, bursar, registrar, institutional research, international student services, public safety, residence life, bookstore).
The Associate Director for Compliance will maintain a comprehensive compliance monitoring program for all Financial Aid activities related to the seventeen (17) St. John’s University sport programs, band, dance and cheer with more than three hundred student-athletes and student managers.
The Associate Director for Compliance will provide on-going NCAA Rules Education programing to all student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff members.
The Associate Director for Compliance position is a supervisory administrative position in the St. John’s University Athletic Department and reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator.
The Associate Director for Compliance is a member of St. John’s Senior Staff and will serve as administrator for at least one of St. John’s varsity sports teams.
Essential Functions:
Oversee an NCAA Division I compliance office’s operations, while keeping up-to-date on new NCAA regulations. Manage the development of department policies and procedures for all administrators, coaches, staff and student-athletes.
Act as one of the department liaisons with NCAA Membership Services, NCAA Eligibility Center and the Big East Conference in regards to rules interpretation and other compliance related matters for the Office of Athletics and University Officials.
Communicate with the Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA and University General Counsel with real time reporting to promote institutional control throughout the campus community.
Collaborate with the Director of Athletics, Office of General Counsel and the Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA and outside counsel to assist in the successful completion of any NCAA investigation within the Office of Athletics.
Be able to handle confidential documentation regarding any internal NCAA investigation and report violations of NCAA bylaws to the NCAA via the NCAA RSRO portal.
Maintain a comprehensive compliance program for all financial aid activities for each sport program including NCAA squad lists, outside aid, summer aid, winter aid, athletic scholarship renewals, increases, decreases, non-renewals, voluntary cancellations of aid, book scholarship, off campus stipends, holiday break stipends, and cost of attendance checks, non-resident alien taxes for international student-athletes, athletic endowment awards, and Alston awards.
Facilitate all scholarship recommendations for processing of Financial Aid Award letters, Financial Aid Agreements and National Letters of Intent (NLIs).
Maintain a comprehensive account of all Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund (SAOF) expenses.
Annually prepare and submit the athletic scholarship budget request to Financial Aid Office and the University Business Affairs
Collaborate withStudent-Athlete Development Services and the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) to assist in the development of a comprehensive academic support program that will maximize the benefits and services for at-risk-students as well as maintain and measure the academic success for all student-athletes. Work cohesively on continuing eligibility and Progress Toward Degree certification for all student-athletes.
Act as one of the Office of Athletics’ liaisons to University officials related to rules compliance for Accounts Payable, Bursar, Student Financial Services, and Residence Life.
Communicate with Athletics Department Senior Staff and coaches to assist in ensuring that University and department policies and procedures are executed by all administrators, coaches, staff and student-athletes.
Collaborate in providing NCAA rules education to coaches, student-athletes, athletic department administrators, prospective student-athletes, parents of PSAs and SAs, boosters, faculty members and other offices thorough out the university community (e.g., admissions, financial aid, bursar, registrar, institutional research, international student services, public safety, residence life, bookstore).
Assist with all initial and continuing eligibility certification for student-athletes.
Act as one of the Office of Athletics’ liaisons to the NCAA and the BIG EAST Conference in regards to association and conference rules interpretation and enforcement.
Annually complete and submit reports to the NCAA such as Revenue Distribution and Sport Sponsorship.
Annually complete the KPMG financial aid audit report.
When applicable, submit waiver requests to the NCAA (e.g. legislative relief, progress toward degree, student-athlete reinstatement) on behalf of St. John’s University.
When applicable, submit waiver requests to the BIG EAST Conference, (e.g. medical hardship, medical absence, incidental expense, on behalf of St. John’s University.
Along with Student-Athlete Development Services, collaborate with the University Institutional Research Office to complete NCAA reports such as Federal Graduation Rate (FGR), Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and the Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Assist in reviewing student-athlete Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) transactions and education.
Competencies
Working knowledge of NCAA Rules and regulations
Working knowledge of NCAA Applications (e.g. Cai software program, LSDBi, RSRO, NCAA EC)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Working knowledge of Teamworks applications such as ARMS, Teamworks, INFLCR etc.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position is a supervisory administrative position.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced professional office environment; This position is required to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, scanners, etc.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the employee include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, etc.
E** nvironmental Conditions**
The Compliance Office is located on the second floor of Carnesecca Arena. As a result, the employee needs to be able to walk up steps to get to their desk (cubicle) in the Compliance Office.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position is full-time in-person position. For example: days and hours of work and time are Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Travel
Travel to NCAA Convention, NCAA Regional Rules Seminar and BIG EAST Conference Compliance meetings occur annually are required. In addition, occasional team travel with St. John’s University sport team may occur.

BA or BS degree
Five (5) years related NCAA Compliance experience

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual/hourly salary range for this position is $80,000 - $86200.
