Reporting to the Director of Athletics and working in collaboration with University Advancement on athletic and university advancement initiatives, the Associate AD for External Operations’ primary responsibility will be to develop and implement long and short-term plans to secure major gifts from alumni, friends, volunteers, corporations, foundations, and other entities with an emphasis on gifts of $25,000 and larger and completing the “All In” Capital Campaign for the Bulldog Outdoor Sports Complex ($20M).
In addition to the above, the Associate AD for External Operations will be responsible for leading and coordinating all Bulldog external units which include communications, marketing, and promotions, advancement, creative content, social media, ticket operations, ticket sales, and sponsorships with a focus on executing our strategic plan.
This position will serve as a member of the Director of Athletics Senior Team and will supervise the Assistant AD for Digital and Creative Branding, Assistant AD for Communications and Marketing, and Assistant AD for Athletics Advancement.
The Associate AD for External Operations will also be responsible for supervising sport programs as assigned by the Director of Athletics. As a sport supervisor, the employee will collaborate with coaches and staff on goal setting, budgeting, and evaluation of the assigned program.
The employee will be expected to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of constituents. This position requires a high energy level, unquestioned integrity and fiscal accountability, and the ability to plan and achieve short- and long-range goals. The Associate AD for External Operations will be an ambassador for the University and its mission.
Exempt
Bachelor’s degree required from a four-year accredited college or university, preferably in business, marketing, communications, public relations, sport management or related field required.
Minimum of three years of experience in athletics external operations and direct fundraising experience asking for and closing gifts at the $25,000+ level required.
Master’s degree is preferred. Preference for candidates with experience in sales or solicitation experience in advancement, sponsorships, ticket sales, communication, marketing, or event management at the
NCAA
I level.
Understanding of gift planning techniques and
IRS
rules for gifts in all categories.
Strong knowledge of the advancement field and fundraising techniques.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of
NCAA
rules and working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics.
Excellent people skills to relate to and establish relationships with donors, volunteers, and colleagues.
Initiative-taking with ability to set strategic goals while implementing fundraising principles and tactics.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently as appropriate.
Ability to navigate complex organizational structures to build consensus and reach goals.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to think and act strategically.

Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including nights and weekends
Familiarity with donor record-keeping database (Raiser’s Edge

preferred) and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
Ability to build relationships with a wide range of people.
Ability to approach challenges creatively.
Understanding of donor/constituent relationship.
