James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is seeking an Associate Athletics Director for Integrated Health and Sports Performance. This position will report to the Director of Athletics and will be oversee the operation of the Integrated Health and Sports Performance Unit.The position is a full-time, 12-month position with a full comprehensive benefits package. The Associate Athletics Director for Integrated Health and Sports Performance will serve as the leader of the Integrated Health and Sports Performance Unit at JMU which is a collaborative, interdisciplinary team of professionals. This position will be responsible for working in partnership to develop performance programming that supports athletic development and competitive success of student-athletes on and off the field of competition. The selected candidate will serve as a member of the Athletics Senior Leadership team.
Duties include but are not limited to: Develop effective and trusting partnerships with Athletics staff to drive better coordination in order to optimally address student-athletes’ needs. Supervise and assist with coordination of care for the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illness for student-athletes. Provide consistent communication with all necessary staff regarding health and sports performance issues. Hire, train, evaluate and supervise athletic training staff, strength and conditioning staff and sports dietitian. Work to identify, foster, and build relationships with campus entities, departments, and staffs to develop resources for student-athletes, coaches, and teams that may enhance programming, support, and health or performance-related resources Assist with oversight of prompt, effective, emergency care for serious injuries and ensure coordinated referral to emergency medical systems or personnel. Assist in providing overview of latest performance developments and technologies to staff to ensure JMU Athletics stays engaged, progressive and a leader in performance service delivery. Assist with coordination of medical providers and serve as the administrative liaison with team physicians and other medical professionals. Ensure comprehensive strength and conditioning, health, and nutrition programs for student-athletes. Work in coordination with the leadership teams within Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Nutrition, and Sport Psychology staffs to identify and attend quality continuing education programing and professional development opportunities to remain abreast of techniques, ideas, and tools to improve programming and staff development. Coordinate with the Integrated Health and Sports Performance staff with the development of rehabilitation and treatment care plans/programs for specific injuries and illnesses for short-term and long-term care, making post-injury assessments, facilitating and monitoring injured athlete return to conditioning programming, return to competition and discharge strategies, and sustainability programming. Monitor, inspect, and ensure medical equipment is maintained to protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department members. Research and develop new and evolving training and injury prevention policies, techniques, technologies and protocols. Supervise and assist with maintaining appropriate Occupational and Safety Health Administration guidelines, maintaining a clean, healthy and safe work place. In conjunction with the CMO and heads of each department respectively review, evaluate, and develop best practice policies and procedures for the Sports Medicine department and Integrated Health and Sports Performance Unit. Develop, supervise and administer the annual budget for the sports medicine department and help provide strategic planning in relation to all supervisory area budgets. Oversee and coordinate the JMU Institutional Drug Testing Program, along with coordination with psychology, the sports medicine team and campus resources for follow-up interventions. Supervise the maintenance, organization and confidential record keeping of all medical records, medical supplies and physical property according to department protocol. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, Sun Belt, and Institution rules that relate to this position.
Required: Master’s Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine or related field Hold BOC certification, have a Virginia license to practice Athletic Training or be eligible for licensure Previous NCAA Division I Experience · Previous experience in an administrative role of a Division I NCAA sports Medicine Department Preferred: Previous experience as Director of Sports Medicine or Associate/Asst Director of Sports Medicine NSCA-CSCS certifications Advance Clinical Skills – IASTM, Manual Therapy, Movement screens etc. Experience as a Clinical Preceptor Ten or more years of experience post certification Appropriate or relative terminal degree in area health administration or business fields
