The University of Utah seeks a Head Coach for its Nordic Skiing program. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration and development of the program, including developing and managing a budget, training and competition schedule, travel, and equipment needs. The Nordic Head Coach will work closely with Director of Skiing Fredrik Landstedt in all aspects of running the Nordic program.

Work within the university mission to provide a competitive, unique, and memorable club experience for student-athletes
Responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly coaching of athletes as well as fitness tests etc.
Maintaining training programs and monitor hours to be compliant with
NCAA
and Institutional rules.
Being physically able to lift heavy equipment and to test skis, wax, and structure for competitions.
Qualified to drive large Vans and Truck with trailer for long road trips.
Being present at all practices 5-6 days per week during season as well as traveling to all training camps and competitions. Approximately 50 nights/year on the road during competition season.
Making yearly plan to stay compliant with
NCAA
, Conference, and institutional rules. Making sure the team follows all
NCAA
, Conference, and institutional rules and regulations. Staying up to date on all compliance rules.
Recruit academically and athletically qualified National and International student-athletes within the scope of university guidelines as well as reaching annual recruiting goals to meet roster targets
Monitor team and individual academic success and degree completion
Build, develop, and maintain contacts and relations with alumni, high school and club coaches and benefactors
Oversee all necessary administrative responsibilities for the program, including budget management, equipment purchases, and prompt submissions of expenses
Assist Director of skiing in promoting and orchestrating team fundraising events and initiatives.
Plan a comprehensive winter race schedule which includes attending SuperTour, NorAm and collegiate events that promotes the development of athletes for domestic and international success. Book accommodations, transportation and other logistics around these events.
Work closely with other sport specific staff (strength coaches, athletic trainers, team doctors, etc) to create a positive and motivating culture and training program within the bounds of medical advice
Develop and promote student-athlete participation in community service opportunities throughout the year.
Keep team vehicles and team equipment clean, organized and in good working condition
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
Demonstrated effective communication skills through oral, written, and electronic forms.
Experience as a collegiate coach, or
NCAA
competitor, and recruiter is highly preferred.
Knowledge of and compliance with
NCAA
rules is required.
Candidates must be able to work with a diverse group of student-athletes, coaches, support staff, and administrators.
Candidates must also be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and be able to travel.
Candidates must be able to lift heavy ski bags and boxes and be physically fit to test skis, wax, and structure as well as being out on the course during competitions.
This position requires the operation of large motor vehicles as part of the job responsibilities. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of the University-required background checks and drivers certification are required.
