Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Management, Communications, Public Relations, Sports Management, or a related field. Four years of experience in Athletics Marketing and Promotions, Fan Engagement, or relevant professional experience in collegiate or professional athletics. One year of supervisory experience with full-time employees and Division I Athletics experience is desirable. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities would be considered.
Collaborates with the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Branding to plan, organize, and direct the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Marketing through Sam Houston State University’s (SHSU) Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) Division. Performs highly complex managerial work, providing strategic direction and guidance for the department’s marketing, promotions, and ticketing programs.
Develops and implements comprehensive marketing plans for the Department of Athletics through Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) – Athletics External Engagement to enhance marketing, promotional, fan experience, and sales efforts while fostering innovative and collaborative efforts to engage students, staff, alumni, supporters and prospective fans. Develops, manages, and executes comprehensive marketing plans for fan engagement to increase awareness, attendance, and revenue. Works collaboratively with ticketing operations on sales plans for the season, single game, and group sales. Coordinates promotions between athletics marketing, ticketing, Van Wagner College, and sports teams. Works closely and collaboratively with campus partners for student, faculty, and staff engagement for home athletics events and promotions. Oversees digital advertising, communication (Paciolan), and department and team social media strategies to engage fans and students to build the Bearkat Athletics brand. Prepares and executes detailed game scripts and presentations to direct music, video content, public address, spirit, band, on-field promotions, and other resources to create a high-quality fan experience. Oversees community outreach and grassroots engagement efforts to generate excitement for Bearkat Athletics. Oversees compliance with policies and procedures. Works closely with the Integrated Marketing team, athletics, and the Office of the President to ensure and integrated university marketing approach. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, Ability to manage business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, other agencies, and external partners. Must have the ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines. Knowlege using Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and other related software. Knowledge of Conference USA and NCAA rules and regulations would be ideal. Must have strong administrative skills, the ability to motivate teams, and proven organizational capabilities, including proficiency in proofreading, editing, and content creation. Must be highly motivated and accustomed to working in a goal-oriented environment.In addition to regular office hours, this position requires evening and weekend work based on scheduled games and athletic events.This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
