The compensation for this appointment will range from $100,000 – $130,000 annually and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to wages, CBU offers a robust suite of employee benefits.
Position Summary Information
Directs and monitors all NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations associated with the administration of the University’s athletic programs. Start date for this position is on or after January 2, 2024.
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department. Serve on Athletics Department Leadership Team, as well as Sport Supervisor, programs assigned by VP of Athletics. Coordinate, Complete and submit to Vice President of Athletics for approval, all NCAA and conference required reports. Counsel and instruct all coaches and 500+ student-athletes on 21 varsity teams on pertinent rules, to ensure full comprehension and understanding by all team members. Administer the Student-Athlete Guidelines, and the Drug Test Consent and other NCAA required forms to all student-athletes. Provide follow-up instruction and education to those student-athletes subsequently found to be in violation of any pertinent rules. Collect, review, and evaluate information related to coaches’ recruiting of athletes, to ensure compliance with rules. Advise coaches of violations and recommend future courses of action to remain in compliance with conference and NCAA. Research and investigate any reported or suspected instances of rules violations. Recommend and administer appropriate penalties. Coordinate and/or provide administrative support for coaches of all sports teams at California Baptist University; attend practices, games, and conference championships as needed to represent the department, assess administrative needs, and help evaluate coaches. Represent California Baptist University Athletics by participating on or chairing committees and participating in community service. Develop policies and procedures related to Conference rules and regulations. Communicates with coaches and staff policies and procedures, monitors ongoing activity, directs, and recommends action to correct deficiencies. Provide regular Rules and Education sessions to coaches, staff, student-athletes and CBU community. Represent the University at conference meetings concerning institutional compliance. Monitor student financial aid eligibility and other conference reports. Ensures athletic scholarships and financial aid is awarded properly, and with the rules of the conference and the NCAA. Works with the NCAA and various campus offices on initial and continuing eligibility certification for student-athletes. Work with Title IX/Gender Equity Committee and assist with preparing the Title IX Equity in Athletics Report. Annually complete sport sponsorship and demographic form and other NCAA or conference reports. Serve as the Chair of the Compliance Committee. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested time frame and attend all staff meetings. Adhere to all institutional, conference and NCAA by-laws and regulations. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes. Establish a safe environment for student-athletes.
Directly supervises employees, including the assistant compliance director and the athletic academic coordinator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. Able to be a positive representative of the University at all times. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to use independent judgment, and to manage and impart confidential information. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Knowledge of standard budgeting, and expenditure control procedures and documentation. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent in Athletic Administration or related area; and three to five years’ related experience and/or training at the DI or DII NCAA level; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
