The Intercollegiate Athletics has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement to join their team.
The Associate Director of Marketing / Fan Engagement will exhibit strong knowledge and past experience in creative promotional marketing and gameday fan experience efforts, setting goals to increase event attendance, generate revenue, and enhance brand expansion for University of Washington athletic programs. This position is designed as a step of growth for an individual with strong industry experience in a full-time role capacity, and will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing / Fan Engagement.
• Create lasting memories for fans of all ages through promotional planning and event presentation oversight for assigned sports. Maintain direct impact through ongoing relationships with team staff, script writing and on-site producing for all home events, ideation and execution of sponsorship activations, and direction of gameday staff such as interns, PA announcer, emcees, DJ, audio and video operations crew. Set promotional theme days, schedule and maintain team outreach opportunities, gather quotes and orders for giveaway items, and coordinate Sundodger Creative media days. Attend all Sport Support Team meetings and lead all marketing touchpoints therein. The chosen candidate will be tasked with oversight of Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Rowing, Beach Volleyball, and will join the full marketing team at all Husky Football gamedays. (40%)
• Lead all planning, organization, and expansion of assigned athletics outreach initiatives – specifically Seattle community event appearances and tabling. Serve as liaison to community groups, coordinating UW marketing appearances at non-athletic events. Provide oversight and upkeep of the ICA Marketing Community Event Calendar, event registration, and on-site staffing. (35%)
• Assist in the oversight and direction of Marketing Coordinators and Marketing Interns, with a focus on community event scheduling and promotional marketing efforts for assigned sports. (15%)
• Brainstorm and recommend promotional messaging to communicate information regarding upcoming athletic events and outreach opportunities, in conjunction with the Assistant Athletic Director for Revenue Generation, Email Marketing Coordinator, and digital strategy and creative staff. Identify target audiences for each promotion and align outreach efforts befitting such audience, in collaboration with Conference sales staff. (10%)
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree required in marketing, sport management, business administration or a related field. Minimum of three years of combined professional experience in live event production, promotional marketing, or community outreach in a sports setting.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• The ideal candidate will exhibit strong attention to detail, with the ability to operate independently and communicate effectively in dynamic settings.
• Have an ever-evolving understanding of the industry and a creative mindset towards promoting events and growing revenue.
• Highly motivated, creative, self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A strong leader and mentor, especially to college students.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule; evenings and weekends are required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Shoflo, Sound Director, Tagboard, and other gameday-adjacent software and platforms is encouraged but not required.
