Position Summary

Responsible for serving as Associate Head Athletic Trainer for the Department of Athletics and as a Preceptor for the Athletic Training Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide medical coverage for all home competitions at the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer.

Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.

Assist in the purchasing of all equipment and supplies to support the function of the Athletic Training Room.

Prepare, administer, and evaluate a budget for the Athletic Training Department.

Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.

Electronic documentation of all patent encounters.

Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patent.

Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.

Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations.

Communicate with the Head Athletic Trainer, physicians, and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.

Develop educational programs in accordance with the

NAIA

on drug awareness and prevention for all student athletes.

Develop drug prevention programs among student athletes.

Assist with monitoring the

TXWES

Athletic Department drug testing as assigned by the Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer.

Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the

TXWES

Athletic Training standard operating procedures.

Assist in developing and updating an annual strategic plan for Athletic Training Department within the

TXWES

Athletic Department.

Responsible for administrate and other duets as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Serve as a Preceptor for the Athletic Training Program. This responsibility requires direct supervision of students who have been accepted into the Athletic Training Program and observation students.

Other responsibilities may be assigned at the Head Athletic Trainer’s discretion.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

1 or more years of experience working in a collegiate setting.

Bachelors’ Degree in Athletic Training or related field. Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field.

Must be

BOC

certified and possess Texas Athletic Training License or ability to obtain.

Class C Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain.

Current First Aid and Professional

CPR

Certification.

NPI

Experience

Prior collegiate Athletic Training experience (preferred).

Experience and skill in crisis management and substance abuse intervention (preferred).

Experience working with professional, collegiate or large high school football program (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of a large range of medical problems.

Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.

Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensed guidelines.

Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.

Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.

Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no
