The Assistant Athletic Director or Director for Strength and Conditioning* is responsible to lead all aspect of the development and implementation of a successful year-round sport-specific strength and conditioning for 15 Division I sports programs with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills.
The Assistant AD for Strength and Conditioning Coach devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records, and teaches strength and conditioning classes as needed
Design, organize, implement, facilitate, oversee and evaluate all facets of the Cougar Strength and Conditioning Program. This includes the educational, monitoring and supervisory components as well as working within a shared facility.
*Title is commensurate with experience.
Design, Implement, and Supervise the overall Strength and Conditioning for all

teams
Reduce the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warm ups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contests.
instruct student-athletes on proper techniques and physical performance
Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the weight room facility,
Facilitate learning of proper lifting, spotting and safety techniques.
Participate in professional development and continuing education.
Create system to track and monitor student-athlete goals, workouts and progress.
Actively collaborate and communicate with the Sports Medicine Staff for updates on student-athletes ability to train/injuries.
Develop summer and off-season programs
Create a vision for growth and improvement for the strength and conditioning program
Collaborate and regularly meet with head coaches to assess needs and plan programs
Supervise assistant position and conduct annual performance evaluation
Determine sport assignments for Strength and Conditioning coaches
Contributes to the overall success of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelors Degree in a related field is preferred with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in collegiate Strength and Conditioning
Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (
CPR
), and automated external defibrillation (
AED
) certifications.
A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
Must possess a relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency:
NSCA
(National Strength and Conditioning Association Certification)-
CSCS
(Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
CSCCa (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association Certification-
SCCC
(Strength and Coach Certified)
DBC
Level 1(Professional and Collegiate Biomechanics-Strength, Fitness, and Conditioning)
Master’s Degree in a related field with five (5) years of Division I experience
Experience in a supervisory capacity
Possess
EMT
certification.
Responsible for compliance with institutional,
NEC
and
NCAA
Division I rules, both those general in nature and those which apply specifically to their job responsibilities.
Strong motivational abilities.
Evidence of ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public.
Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes. Ability to visually monitor athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent interstate and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun and heat.
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hard wood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self‐ motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. Evening and weekend work will be expected.
