Stanford University Golf Course is seeking a highly motivated and service-oriented golf professional to serve as the Assistant Golf Professional/ Tournament & Hospitality Manager. Reporting directly to the Head Golf Professional, this position supports daily golf operations with a primary focus on tournament administration, hospitality programming, event execution, and member experience initiatives. This role serves as a key member of the golf operations team and provides operational support for member events, university functions, corporate outings, championship competitions, and player development programs. The Assistant Golf Professional / Tournament & Hospitality Manager ensures exceptional event execution and hospitality standards while supporting Stanford members, guests, student-athletes, university partners, and visitors. This position also contributes to operational improvements, strategic initiatives, and facility transition efforts.

Primary Areas of Focus

Tournament & Event Operations

• Plan, coordinate, and execute member tournaments, university events, corporate outings, qualifiers, and championship competitions.
• Manage tournament logistics including registration, pairings, scoring, communications, event setup, and post-event reporting.
• Utilize Golf Genius and related tournament management platforms to administer events.
• Coordinate with internal departments, vendors, sponsors, and event partners to ensure successful execution.
• Support NCAA events, postseason competitions, and Stanford varsity golf operations as needed.
   

Hospitality & Member Experience

• Deliver exceptional hospitality standards for members, guests, university partners, and event participants.
• Support member engagement initiatives and create positive guest experiences throughout the facility.
• Assist with planning and execution of member programming, social events, clinics, and player development opportunities.
• Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery, communication, and operational efficiency.

 

Golf Operations Support

• Support daily golf operations including tee sheet management, player services, and facility readiness.
• Assist with staff coordination, training, and implementation of operating procedures.
• Provide professional support to the Head Golf Professional and golf operations leadership team.
• Maintain a consistent presence throughout golf operations to ensure service standards are achieved.
   

Player Development & Instruction

• Support golf instruction programs, clinics, and Learning Center programming.
• Assist with player development initiatives designed to enhance member engagement and golfer experience.
• Maintain knowledge of golf instruction trends, technology, and player development practices.

 

Facility Transition & Strategic Initiatives

• Support temporary facility operations during the Clubhouse renovation transition.
• Assist with event logistics, staffing models, communication efforts, and operational improvements.
• Collaborate with DAPER leadership, vendors, university partners, and external stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Traits

• If a PGA Member, maintain PGA of America membership in good standing and mentor apprentices through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) program.
• If a PGA Apprentice, demonstrate steady progress toward completion of PGA membership requirements within two years of hire date.
• Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, Rules of Golf, tournament administration, golf instruction, and player development principles.
• Strong understanding of tournament management, hospitality operations, event execution, and championship-level service expectations.
• Fundamental supervisory practices and principles with the ability to coordinate employees, vendors, and event partners.
• Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, accountability, teamwork, and the service standards expected of Stanford Golf Course employees.
• Strong organizational, planning, project management, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to manage multiple complex events, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships.
• Self-motivated with a desire to promote programs, enhance services, and support revenue opportunities.
• Service and customer-focused attitude with a commitment to exceptional member and guest experiences.
• Excellent written and oral business communication skills.

• Experienced user of Golf Genius, Club Caddie, POS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, tournament databases, and event management platforms.
• Ability to remain current on customer relations management, player development initiatives, hospitality practices, marketing trends, and golf industry business practices.
• Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, PGA education programs, and trade shows to remain current on industry trends.
• Maintain and promote a positive professional image within Stanford University, the golf industry, and the community.
• Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations, marketing, and business trends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• PGA of America membership preferred; PGA Associates actively progressing toward Class A membership will be considered.
• Minimum two years of experience at a private club, resort, university, or premier golf facility.
• Demonstrated experience with tournament operations, event management, hospitality, and golf programming.
• Experience supporting staff, vendors, and event partners in a professional golf environment.
• Experience supporting NCAA events, championship competitions, or collegiate athletics.
• Experience with Golf Genius, Club Caddie, POS systems, and golf management technology platforms.
• Experience with golf instruction, clinics, player development, and member programming.
• Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and digital communication platforms.

 

Responsibilities

Core Duties :

• Assist in administering and evaluating day-to-day activities of the operation and/or golf program. Assist in operational sport-related tasks and ensure high-quality customer service is delivered to Golfing sports and/or recreation participants and coaches.

• Using relevant knowledge, support the golf operation and/or golf program with equipment, facilities, or logistical efforts and special requests, as needed.

• Assist in maintaining accurate financial records, including inventory tracking and budgeting. Resolve basic accounting or inventory discrepancies via standardized procedures and practices.

• Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting market, equipment and trend data.

• Provide input process, policy, or procedure improvements.

• May coach / advise more junior athletic staff, student employees and contingent staff.

• Document the routine maintenance or reviews of equipment and physical structure and maintain the records of all warranties and services for the facility.

• May operate retail and inventory technologies daily.

• May serve as field instructor for multi-day programs and courses.

• Collect, disseminate and organize enrollment materials, accident reports, assumption of risk forms, and any other required record keeping necessary.

• Follows appropriate safety/risk management procedures.

• Knowledge of NCAA regulations.

Minimum Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relative experience.

• Direct experience with competitive golf and experience managing all aspects of golf tournaments.

• Must be able to safely and properly operate a golf cart.

Certificates and Licenses Required

Must be registered in the PGA PGM.
