Position Overview:
This position is classified as a 10-month full-time at-will employment appointment with administrative (30%) and coaching (teaching) (70%) responsibilities. This position is eligible to accrue sick leave at a rate of 10 hours each month but will not accrue vacation leave. The coach will provide daily instruction to student-athletes to increase their knowledge and understanding of the sport. Provide strategic direction, leadership, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for intercollegiate competition. Plan, organize and conduct practice sessions. Educate and enforce safety rules and regulations. Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance. Educate individuals or groups in rules, strategies, techniques, and principles relevant to their particular sport. Evaluate athletes' skill level and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics. Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport. Ensure compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations for their respective sport program.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Will implement phases of defensive game plan with specific regard to linebackers/defensive line. Must have the ability to organize and lead others within the scope of a football program. Assists with recruiting academically successful and highly skilled student athletes. Assists the Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator in running team practices. Will specifically focus on coordinating our defensive run game fits. Assists with in-season and out of season player development. Assists with monitoring the academic progress of student/athletes. Remains informed on all student athletes' academic progress. Gives routine assessment and feedback to participants in regard to their performance. Cooperates with media, civic organizations, and campus departments to promote their sport, as well as the entire athletic department as assigned by the Head Football Coach. Works closely with NCAA Athletic Compliance staff to ensure adherence to all applicable NCAA, Conference and University regulations. Designs, implements, conducts and monitors strength & conditioning programs for all sports during the academic year. Designs, implements and conducts strength & conditioning programs for fall championship sports during the summer. Coordinates student-athlete rehabilitation with sports medicine and assists with rehabilitation of injured student-athletes. Supports education for student-athletes about nutrition and supplementation. Works collaboratively with the Director of Athletic Strength and Conditioning in coordinating, maintenance, and staffing of weight room/strength facilities; assists in scheduling weight room training for various sport programs. Performs other duties as assigned. Work with the Head Coach to develop a Community Service Outreach program that will engage the student athletes into the Edmond community and the surrounding areas. Will encourage community outreach and engagement by student athletes to help promote public and private relationships within the student athlete and the community. Cooperates with media, civic organizations, and campus departments to promote their sport, as well as the entire athletic department as assigned by the Head Football Coach. Coordinate all filming of practice, games, and other required events associated with the football program. Position also requires supervision of downloading the film into the video editing system and uploading on to the hard drives. Will also coordinate communication with other schools' video coordinator for transitioning and exchanging film, before and after games.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching, instructing and coaching, preferably at the collegiate level. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. 5+ years of experience. Appropriate profession accomplishments and credentials. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification must be provided.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred:
Bachelor's degree. Minimum of two years coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. Demonstrated successful experience in football management. Post-hire: Must pass NCAA certification recruiting test within 30 days of beginning employment date. Master's degree.

Must meet physical demands of the position which include extensive football activities and working in a noisy environment. Ability to work in an environment where the education, welfare, and graduation of student-athletes receive primary emphasis. Maintains nationally recognized strength and conditioning certification. Maintain current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of strength and conditioning equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Supervisory skills.
