The Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine is responsible for coordinating and administering the Augusta University Athletics sports medicine program for 14 sports, approximately 300 student-athletes, two assistant athletic trainers, interns, and athletic training facilities.
Duties include but are not limited to:
MANAGEMENT OF THE EVALUATION AND TREATMENT OF INJURIES AND ILLNESSES FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES: Coordinate the pre-participation medical examination with team physicians. Design and modify appropriate individual rehab of post-surgical and post-injury conditions. Refer ill and/or injured student-athletes to health services or the ream physician(s) regarding their injuries and/or illnesses. Maintain medical and administrative records. Oversee the documentation of injuries, treatments and rehabilitation of injured athletes. Design and fabricate protective equipment and apply appropriate taping/wrapping to support extremities and prevent further aggravation to existing injuries. Provide daily follow-up care and evaluation of injured and ill student-athletes and communicate with appropriate athletics staff regarding status of injury/illness and participation capabilities. Provide emergency medical evaluation, treatment and injury triage during practice and competition.
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF DEPARTMENT'S STUDENT-ATHLETE HEALTH INSURANCE NEEDS: Interact with the institution's secondary insurance provider to ensure proper coordination of payment of services rendered to student-athletes.
SERVE AS ADMINISTRATIVE LIAISON BETWEEN THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT AND THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY REGARDING THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES: Foster positive working relationships with team physicians, coaches, staff and student-athletes. See new opportunities as the relate to partnerships and revenue generation within the medical community.
SERVE AS A POINT OF CONTACT FOR MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS, TRAINING AND EDUCATION FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES AND STAFF: Develop and maintain mental health policies and procedures for the athletics department. Seek out mental health and/or wellness speakers to engage our department and student-athletes.
HIPPA COMPLIANCE:Ensure HIPPA compliance regarding confidentiality and electronic communication.
COORDINATE AND SUPERVISE: Coordinate practice and game coverage, schedules, rehabs, assigns responsibilities, and supervises both professional and student-athletic training staff.
DRUG TESTING PROGRAM: Oversee the Augusta athletics drug testing program and serve as the NCAA drug testing site coordinator.
OVERSEE THE BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES OF INVENTORY, PURCHASING AND MAINTENANCE OF SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS: Manage medical billing software (if applicable) for revenue generation.
SERVE ON THE DEPARTMENT'S ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM AND ASSUME AREAS OF OVERSIGHT AS ASSIGNED: Assist with athletics special events as they relate to the area of sports medicine.
OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with five to eight years experience. Certified Athletic Trainer (NATA) required.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Knowledge
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/ databases
Skills
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization, and customer service skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality
Shift: Monday-Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Grade: 20
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
