Assists the department by supporting student-athletes to positively impact their collegiate experience, retention, persistence, and graduation. Serves as the athletics academic coordinator for assigned sports.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Meets regularly with assigned students-athletes regarding academic performance and University and NCAA requirements, while also developing individualized academic support plans/interventions for assigned student-athletes.
Assists student-athletes in evaluating their academic options, considering the student-athlete’s strengths and weaknesses, academic needs, time management, sport schedules, and NCAA/conference regulations.
Works closely with academic colleges and advisors to monitor progress toward degree completion in pursuit of graduation for assigned student-athletes and sports.
Assists in the planning and development of the student-athletes academic schedule to ensure compliance with University and NCAA requirements as well as work around a team’s daily practice schedule.
Works cooperatively with the Director of Advising in each academic college regarding review of NCAA academic eligibility and provide necessary supporting documentation.
Monitors the academic performance and continuing eligibility of student-athletes to ensure compliance with institutional standards and NCAA requirements.

Manages the compilation and timely dissemination of detailed student-athlete academic reports and updates to coaches, sport supervisors, and Director of Athletic Academic Services. Furthermore, meet regularly with coaches to report and discuss current and future academic progress related to institutional standing, graduation and NCAA academic eligibility.
Meets with prospective student-athletes (and their family members) on their official recruiting visits to YSU, as requested by coaching staffs.
Prepares unofficial evaluations of prospective student-athlete records, including transfers; works cooperatively with university departments to obtain course equates for domestic and international students.
Coordinates study hall sessions for student-athletes; monitors and provides coaches with weekly updates on study hours completed.
Serves as a general resource for assigned student-athletes regarding campus, academics, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Assists with the collection, validation and submission of data required for the NCAA APR and GSR academic reports.
Represents the Jermaine Hopkins Academic Center on committees within the athletics department and/or on campus. Represents university by participating in conferences or national committees or special assignments.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Contribute to a positive and productive work environment and maintain respectful professional working relationships.
Attends and actively engages in staff meetings, training, professional development experiences, and opportunities, as budget allows. Holds membership in and participate in N4A, as budget allows.
Collaborates with constituents to successfully achieve mutually sought goals for the department and University.
Complies with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, some evenings and weekends as needed. Some travel may be involved.
Supervision Exercised: May exercise supervision over student employees.

Qualifications and Competencies
Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: University policies and procedures; NCAA bylaws and regulations, specifically pertaining to Division I eligibility requirements.
Skill in: Meticulous attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds, culture, and a wide range of ages; use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division.
Ability to: collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; determine material and equipment needs; compile and prepare reports; use proper research methods to gather data; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; effectively interact with personnel and public to answer routine questions; train or instruct others; move quickly and effectively from one tasks to another; work independently and in a team environment; develop and maintain effective working relationships, willingness to work a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; one year working as an academic advisor, learning specialist, or a similar role (including Graduate Assistant and/or internship) specifically for student-athletes.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university; two or more years of experience within NCAA Division I academic advising, membership in the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A).
