| Position Summary |
The Sports Information Athletic Assistant will assist the Director/Sports Information with the coverage of the University 25 NCAA Division III varsity sports. Responsibilities include media relations, publications, statistics collection & reporting. Duties include, but are not limited to, serving as the media liaison for selected sports, writing game recaps and feature stories, keeping statistics for athletic events, and maintaining the athletics website, www.ucpioneers.com. He/she should have experience using social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter for communications and marketing purposes. The Sports Information Assistant will be required to work flexible hours, including weekends, nights and/or holidays. Position is 12 months. Athletic Assistants will work a max of 1,000 hours per year.

| Major Responsibilities |
A. Maintains computerized statistics for varsity sports and oversees the exchange of statistical information between UC, conference headquarters (NCAA, Empire 8, ECAC) related sport websites, and opponents. Responsible for staffing select home games with appropriate statisticians.
B. Files championship declarations and score reporting forms for select sports. May act as a liaison to the Empire 8. Assists the Athletic Assistant Director/Sports Information with written reports, departmental planning, and conference projects.
C. Develops and maintains individual sport record books. Maintains the Utica athletics website which includes scores, team news, rosters, schedules, etc. Acts as a primary contact to all media, reporting box scores, and game stories, responds to media requests, suggests feature story ideas, and encourages on-site event coverage. Produce hometown highlight releases and features, which promote student-athlete accomplishments.
D. Contributes feature articles for alumni and development office publications, edit sports pages of these publications, and update editorial and photos for University admissions publications. Develop the University sports marketing identity and ensure consistent usage in conjunction with the public relations office. Writes and oversees production of media guides and game-day programs for varsity teams.
E. Assists the Athletic Assistant Director/Sports Information with the Universities annual Pioneer Hall of Fame/Senior Student-Athlete ceremony. Nominates student-athletes for University, community and national awards.
F. Will assist the Athletic Assistant Director/Sports Information with special projects and initiatives as assigned.
H. Takes an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
I. Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.
J. May perform other related duties as assigned.

| Education & Experience Qualifications |
Bachelor’s Degree Required.
Previous experience working in an athletic media relations office is preferred.
The candidate must possess excellent writing and communications skills.
Experience with StatCrew software and the Adobe Creative Suite are preferred.

Strong organizational and communication skills required. Detail oriented and able to work well under pressure.
