Wayne State University, an NCAA Division II member, located in the cultural district of Detroit, invites applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Coach I Men's Football.
Â
Responsibilities will include administering all phases of the intercollegiate program including, but not limited to, the recruitment of quality student-athletes; teaching and instruction of skills and techniques inherent in the highest level of competitive play; scheduling; organizing and conducting practices/competitions; budget management; overseeing student-athletes' academic progress; fundraising; community involvement; and compliance with NCAA, GLIAC and Wayne State University rules and regulations all while incorporating the department's strategic goals and on-going initiatives.Â

Essential Functions
Â
Demonstrate an ability to teach and develop student-athletes to represent the University and department with an emphasis on good character, a winning attitude and the professional standards expected by the department.
Â
Responsible for teaching advance level skills and game strategies.
Â
Assist in the planning, preparation, & scheduling of games with direction of head coach, including travel.Â
Â
Will work with the strength and conditioning staff to develop and condition student-athletes.Â
Â
Work collaboratively with training staff, academic resource personnel and compliance staff.
Â
Proven ability to recruit high caliber student-athletes with an emphasis on the urban setting and the University's strong academic standards reflected in its Carnegie I profile.Â
Â
Demonstrate good judgment in advising and counseling student athletes including working with the department's academic services unit to graduate student-athletes.Â
Â
Adheres to the NCAA and Conference legislative/interpretative requirements and understands which reflects strong ethical conduct and control.Â
Â
Maintain a positive and informed approach with the athletic department's many internal complimentary services including: academic support, development, strength and conditioning, training staff and sport coordinator. Expected to be actively part the unit's head coaching leadership profile.Â

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.Â

Under the NCAA Bylaw 11.1.6 Sports-Safety Training, each head coach and all other coaches who are employed full-time at an institution shall maintain current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.

Proven record of recruiting highly competitive and academically prepared student-athletes.Â

Knowledge and specialization in intercollegiate coaching required.Â

Proven ability to work with head coach to direct, manage and prepare an intercollegiate athletics team.Â
