Missouri Western State University announces a search for a
Part-time Athletic Communications Coordinator
to join our Athletics Department. The Athletic Communications Coordinator assists in the media relations efforts for all Griffon athletics sports. The Athletic Communications Coordinator will assist in management of the athletics website and produce regular content (press releases, season outlooks, etc.) in order to enhance the brand and promote student-athletes and coaches.
This part-time position will be a 10-month position working August 15th through May 15th annually.
Located in St. Joseph, Missouri, just 45 minutes north of Kansas City, Missouri Western is a
NCAA
Division II institution, which successfully competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (
MIAA
) in 16 sports and Great Lakes Valley Conference (
GLVC
) in 1 sport.
Serve as the primary media contact for selected sports.
Assist in the performance and assignment of game-day operations related to media, press box, scorer’s table, game statistics, game programs, and pre/post-game press conferences.
Maintain the athletics website, including but not limited to posting/updating schedules, rosters, student-athlete and staff bios, and keeping the record books up-to-date.
Produce regular press releases (event previews, recaps, and other news) in order to enhance the brand and tell the stories of Griffon athletics.
Nominate student-athletes and coaches for conference and national awards.
Handle requests from outside media sources for interviews, statements, and credential distribution.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications.
Bachelor’s Degree
A valid driver’s license
Master’s Degree
Strong organizational skills.
Good problem-solving skills.
Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to display the effective leadership skills necessary to act in the absence of the Director of Communications.
Ability to effectively organize and prirotize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Familiarity with using Adobe Creative Suite.
Familiarity with photography and basic understanding to properly utilize in-game.
Basic knowledge of social media and content creation.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Generally works in an office or an indoor or outdoor sports environment.
May be exposed to the loud noise of an audience at games.
Incumbents may, on rare occasions, be subjected to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and bodily fluids.
Position requires heavy physical activity, and the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
Requires the ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and reach.
Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
Traveling with teams is required.
