JOB DESCRIPTION:  

The Athletic Director is responsible for leadership, management, operations and fundraising for intercollegiate athletic operations at Cameron University, an NCAA Division II institution in the Lone Star Conference.  The Athletic Director reports to the university president.  The position includes responsibilities for recruiting, professional development, support and supervision of coaches and athletics staff as well as assuring the quality of the student-athlete experience in all aspects of student life by working collaboratively and creatively with the other members of the university administrative team. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Duties as the Athletic Director include, but are not limited to:

• Lead, manage and monitor all university intercollegiate programs
• Support academic success including persistence and degree completion for student athletes and graduate assistants
• Assure a positive, safe and healthy environment for athletic competition for student-athletes and for the workplace for athletic personnel
• Athletics budget management including E&G, auxiliary, and Foundation accounts
• Lead athletic fundraising efforts and support university fundraising efforts including alumni engagement and donor cultivation
• Supervise and plan for the general care, maintenance and improvement of campus athletic facilities
• Assure conformity and compliance with rules, regulations, and policies of the NCAA, Lone Star Conference and Cameron University including annual reporting requirements
• Provide frequent, pervasive and positive engagement with the local community and with athletic supporters
• Promote and market athletic teams and events
• Assure active involvement of student-athletes and athletic staff in community service activities
• Performs other duties as assigned by the university president

SUPERVISION:  

The Athletic Director will be under the direct supervision of the University President.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
• Four years or more of relevant, progressively responsible experience in athletics administration
• Commitment to student success, collegial decision making, and collaborative leadership
• Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working with a diverse student, employee, or community population

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
• Experience in a public higher education setting as an athletic director
• Demonstrated experience interpreting and maintaining compliance with NCAA, state and federal laws and regulations
• Demonstrated experience with donor relations and fundraising
