Summary
Responsible for the overall management and operation of the Athletics department, ensuring high quality co-curricular programs and delivering an outstanding student-athlete experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees all aspects of Jewell’s athletic programs, including compliance, policies, budget, schedules, and all personnel.
Updates the President regularly on all aspects of athletics at Jewell, and compliance specifically.
Maintains healthy, regular dialogue with the Faculty Athletic Representative about the intersections between athletic and academic policies and practices.
Provides leadership to Jewell’s NCAA athletic affiliation and ensures Jewell complies with all NCAA and conference regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Manages athletic budgets to achieve annual financial operating plans for revenues and expenses.
Works proactively and collaboratively with Admissions and Financial Aid to achieve annual enrollment and discount rate targets.
Maintains clear adherence to Title IX guidelines on gender equity within and among sports.
Ensures education of all staff on NCAA compliance and Title IX compliance.
Based on performance objectives, directs and supports athletic staff as they work to achieve agreed upon recruitment, retention, and student satisfaction goals.
Works to assure the achievement of overall athletic and academic goals and objectives for student-athletes and athletic teams, including the continuity of a vibrant Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Oversee revenue generation as directed by the President.
Engages in regular environmental scans and makes recommendations on changes to Jewell’s offerings.
Represents Jewell athletic programs to other program staffs within Jewell and to the public, including alumni, visitors, parents, prospective and incoming students, visiting teams, and all Jewell guests, whether on campus, in the community, or elsewhere.
Recommends and coordinates ongoing maintenance, renovations and improvements of athletic facilities, working closely and collaboratively with the Director of Facilities Management.
Coordinates scheduling and supervision of athletic facilities, student workers, athletic employees and athletic volunteers.
Oversees all aspects of Jewell athletic facility rentals.
Coordinates the nomination, selection, and induction of individuals into Jewell’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Works collegially and collaboratively with the entire college community.
Supervision
Direct supervisory responsibilities for all Athletic department staff members, coaches, student-workers and volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced degree in physical education or related field is required
Strong familiarity with appropriate athletic governing organization rules and regulations required
Documented success in athletic program administration and budget management experience, preferably at the college level, along with experience as a head coach
Demonstrated effective leadership skills
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong external relations skills
Outstanding collaboration skills
Working Conditions
Normal office environment.
Travel required, sometimes frequently but should not be more than 20%. Evening and weekend work required.
Physically able to frequently and comfortably traverse Jewell’s campus and athletic facilities.
