Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletic Equipment Services, the Athletic Equipment Attendant has the primary responsibility for day-to-day coordination of all logistical activities related to all assigned men and women’s sports teams, receipt and distribution of athletic equipment and supplies, laundering, and maintenance of inventory records. This position is responsible for assisting in the enforcement of NCAA, university, conference, and State policies and procedures as they relate to the athletic equipment facility. The position regularly acts as a liaison between the department and student-athletes. This position must work closely with all team sports contacts to resolve problems and/or issues arising in the day-to-day operations of the department. The incumbent often makes independent decisions by evaluating and establishing work priorities under pressure and demands of constant deadlines.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on June 30, 2025 with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club/Development, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, External Corporate Sales, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.
The employing unit, Athletic Equipment Services (AES), has within its scope of responsibilities the operation of an athletic equipment facility that receives, distributes, maintains, fabricates, launders, and repairs athletic equipment and supplies for nineteen team sports. AES also operates two other equipment rooms that are maintained to service three sports beyond the main equipment area. Athletic equipment includes, but is not limited to, all equipment, apparel, and gear provided to varsity teams sponsored by the Department of Athletics.

One year of experience which would provide adequate training for supervising the equipment and supply services in a college athletic program.
Ability to physically lift materials and supplies weighing up to 70 lbs. per package (boxes, bags, etc.)
Experience with Microsoft Office, emphasis in Excel
Exercises initiative, good judgment, and the ability to efficiently perform duties and responsibilities with a minimum level of supervision
Ability to exercise professional, courteous behavior, good judgment, and good customer service when interacting with student-athletes, staff, coaches, visitors, and coworkers
Bachelor’s degree and one or more years of experience at an NCAA school or professional sports organization performing duties as an athletics equipment room attendant is preferred
Knowledge of and/or experience with inventory tracking software such as SportSoft (or other similar software) is preferred
AEMA certified or certifiable within eleven months of hire
Possession of or ability to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid Certificate.
Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,078 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,505 - $5,438 per month.
