The Athletic Facilities Grounds Crewmember provides assistance in the maintenance and upkeep of the athletics facilities as well as performs laundry and athletic equipment services to the NCAA Division II sports teams at Florida Southern College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs tasks common to the care of athletic and intramural facilities, grounds and landscapes by seeding, watering, fertilizing, and applying chemicals to outside plantings, lawns and turf.
Performs regular and directed athletic and intramural grounds and landscape maintenance by mowing lawns with riding or push mowers; trimming and edging around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks and buildings; weeding, thinning and cleaning flower beds and other grounds by hand or utilizing proper tools and equipment; and setting up, adjusting, repairing, and cleaning irrigation systems.
Prepares outdoor locations and athletic and intramural fields for use by painting and marking athletic fields, moving bleachers and seating, and erecting portable goals or other athletic equipment.
Safely operates light vehicles such as pick-up trucks, tractors, street sweepers or riding mowers and portable power tools and equipment such as saws, grass trimmers, leaf blowers, sprayers, paint machines and other groundskeeping equipment by obeying applicable traffic laws and following operator instructions, and wearing appropriate safety items such as goggles, gloves, or other appropriate protective clothing.
Ensures that grounds maintenance equipment is operational by performing routine and preventative maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment and machines within reasonable capabilities.
Assist with nutrient applications of all intramural and athletic facilities.
Assist with all daily functions for Athletics and Intramurals.
Assist with set-ups and break-downs for all events held in athletic or intramural facilities.
Perform all laundry duties as it pertains to Florida Southern College athletic teams.
Contributes to the success of the Athletics department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
Valid Florida driver’s license and a clean driving record.
General mechanical or technical aptitude and a general knowledge of, and experience in, a skill, craft, or trade. A general ability to understand procedures, operations, and/or operate basic equipment, that typically require some previous experience or training is required.
At least two years of experience in groundskeeping is required, where knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in turf care and grasses has been gained; an Associate’s degree in horticulture or a related field may be substituted for the two years of experience required.
Knowledge of the use and proper disposal of chemicals used in groundskeeping (horticulture, turf management, and floriculture) is preferred.
The ability to read the English language sufficiently to understand written work orders and instructions as well as directions for the proper mixture, use, and disposal/storage of cleaners, solvents, chemicals, fertilizers and similar products used in groundskeeping is required.
Skill in the proper operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery is required.
The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Must abide by NCAA, Sunshine State Conference and Florida Southern College rules and regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as climbing ladders, frequent lifting of objects over 50 pounds, crawling or crouching in restricted areas. Occasional lifting of heavy objects weighing 75 pounds or more is required. Maximum physical exertion is required on a daily basis in this job. Prolonged walking or standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching is required on a daily basis.
Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically-powered cleaning equipment and machines.
Requires the ability to access facilities and areas that may only be accessible by climbing stairs; bending; reaching on top of cabinets, shelving, lockers; and moving equipment.
The ability to move throughout assigned areas, as 70% of the work is performed out-of-doors, year round, is required.
