Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation, the Athletic Facility Manager is a key department member and must collaborate effectively with the other Assistant Directors, and the head varsity coaches.
The position is responsible for oversight of the athletic and recreational facilities, supervising a full- and part-time operations team to assist in this mission. The successful candidate for this full-time, exempt position with excellent benefits must be ready to work nights, weekends, and have a flexible schedule. This position demands a positive, can-do, service-minded person who takes pride in their work, communicates, and collaborates well.
This is an Essential Reporting position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as essential reporting has essential job skills that are needed for response and recovery and is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible.
Essential Job Duties
Responsible for the following primary activities:
Supervision of the athletic facilities including the supervision and scheduling of the building staff to ensure controlled access to the facilities, presence in the facilities at all open hours and a positive customer service focused operation. Supervise, hire, train, develop, and support six full-time operations team members (including the Assistant Facility Manager).
Responsible for maintaining the athletic facilities. Ensure that all facilities are clean, in good repair and coordinate needs for replacement or improvement in consultation with the Director. Liaison with housekeeping, grounds and facilities maintenance, central plant, and outside vendors (AFS, Pest, cardio, maintenance). Manage facility improvement projects of varying degrees.
Ensure that all equipment is in good working order, maintained properly and on appropriate schedules, inventoried and replaced on an appropriate schedule. Manage the preventative maintenance contract. Active presence in ensuring exercise areas are neat and tidy at all times. Collaborate with the equipment manager on certain tasks where functions overlap.
Assist in the implementation of the recreational membership program. Includes, but not limited to, the membership sales and renewal program, locker service program, court reservations, equipment check out, lost and found, and eligible guest access. Collaboration with the department administrator on reports.
Control and communicate the facility schedule to a variety of stakeholders. Collaborate with all professional staff, members, and stakeholders to ensure proper priority and balance of access.
Responsible for specific event setup and programming support as necessary for a full slate of activities year round including, recreation, physical education, and intercollegiate events.
Close partnership with security and facilities departments and responsible to maintain preparedness for emergency/crises response and management. Prepared to serve on Institute’s on call student crises team.
Coordination of a limited facility rental program, working closely with approved external rental groups, personal trainers, assistant coaches, and special requests to ensure risk and legal management, invoicing and collection of revenue; reviewing rental requests in advance with the Director.
Participate actively in the general work of the department, attend meetings, work on committees and support the membership, students, and community in a variety of ways to meet our mission. Collaborate well with all department members, especially the other assistant directors.
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned which may include, but not limited to: teaching physical education, providing strength and conditioning instructional support for the community, event management or other recreational or intercollegiate program support.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
CPR/Safety training/AED certification, or the ability to become certified immediately upon hire.
General handy skills and can-do approach; ability to fix small items on own initiative.
Excellent interpersonal skills, non-verbal and written communication skills.
Strong supervisory and managerial skills; awareness of all legal and ethical responsibilities.
Strong general computer, software, and technology skills for managing our programming; budget management experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cultivate positive relationships with every level of the organization through excellent problem solving and conflict management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently on a collaborative team toward department mission; multi-tasking and fluid prioritization of changing tasks; thrives in a dynamic work environment; highly organized.
Ability and willingness to serve as a positive health and fitness role model for our community including a positive, optimistic and can-do professional attitude.
Ability to work a full-time adapted work schedule including nights and weekends.
Physical work environment, must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more on a regular basis. Each day is filled with physical tasks, event set up, carrying equipment in a variety of capacities.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Facility, Recreation or Athletic Management, or physical education preferred.
3+ years of management experience.
Understanding of mechanical and carpentry systems.
Related recreational skills, certifications and interests: i.e. Lifeguarding, Certified Pool Operator, Strength and Conditioning, Climbing.
Competitive or recreational sport experience and passion.
Experience teaching physical education at the secondary or post-secondary level.

Hiring Range
$62,800 - $75,000 per year
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
