Plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of grounds personnel on the athletic fields, intramural fields, and related areas to include: walk the athletic fields daily to identify and address any problems and/or concerns; complete formal landscape inspection forms; develop schedules of work to be done, and create an employee schedule to perform needed work; meet daily with designated coach from each outdoor sport, in season, to identify needs; serve as Snow Team Leader during periods of inclement weather; assist other areas, as requested.
Supervise athletic field staff, to include: assign daily tasks to employees assigned to athletic fields; oversee projects in progress to ensure proper completion; conduct performance appraisals; administer discipline in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (
MOU
); train and/or instruct employees in proper turf control, equipment operation, and safety practices.
Assist in trouble shooting turf problems.
Assist with outside contracts as requested.
Maintain athletic venues in accordance with American Physical Plant Association (
APPA
) Service Level Guidelines.
Bachelor's degree (Specify field(s) of study below), Education/Experience substitution (specify)
Turf Grass Management, Horticulture, Agronomy or related field.
Education may be substituted for experience or experience may be substituted for education. Note that equivalencies are based on the following: AA = 2 years experience; BA/BS = 4 years experience; MA/MS = 6 years experience; PhD = 8 years experience.
Word-Processing
Three years experience in athletic field set-up and maintenance required.
Three years supervisory experience required. Supervisory experience in landscape maintenance preferred.
Two years experience in the application of horticulture chemicals.
Knowledge and experience with
APPA
Grounds/Athletic Fields Service Level Guidelines preferred.
Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, & State/Federal Requirements of Position:
Driver's license, Missouri license required

State of Missouri Department of Agriculture Public Operator License for chemical spraying required within six months of date of hire.
Attention to detail, Budget-related skills, Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal, Knowledge of a University environment preferred, Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership, Physical abilities: mobility/strength/dexterity/balance/coordination/endurance, Supervisory skills, including motivation, delegation of duties, evaluation, etc, Management and/or administration skills, Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines, Maintain confidentiality
Working knowledge of turfgrass maintenance.
Working knowledge of athletic field set-ups per
NCAA
rules.
Ability to schedule field maintenance around athletic field use.
Ability to read and comprehend labeling on pesticide containers and related items to ensure safe use.
Math skills to mix chemicals, to figure area, and to calibrate spray equipment.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, schematics, and blueprints related to the development and maintenance of athletic playing surfaces.
Knowledge of all
NCAA
rules pertaining to field and game set up for all sports.
Excessive standing and/or walking, Exposure to extreme temperatures, Exposure to fumes and/or chemicals, Exposure to heights, Exposure to loud noises, Lifting (weight) - 50 lbs.
Bending, twisting, stooping.
Exposure to dust/horticulture chemicals/fertilizers.
On call/standby work required, Work in stressful conditions, Irregular work hours
Personal protective equipment must be worn while applying chemicals.
Weekend coverage of outdoor sports is required.
No keyboarding test required.
State of Missouri Department of Agriculture Public Operator License for chemical spraying required within 6 months of date of hire.
