REPORTS TO: Athletic Academic and Community Engagement Coordinator (ACE)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Athletics Success Coordinator (ASC) residency is a one-year paid position within the Athletics Department at Southern Wesleyan University (SWU). The purpose of the ASC residency is to offer young leaders the experience of being an active, hands-on staff member within Athletics at SWU. The experience will be shaped through living on campus, serving within various leadership roles, and learning/functioning within a healthy team model. ASCs who complete this residency will ultimately be better prepared to transition into a full-time position in higher education or other various ministry roles.
Start: 8/12/24
Christmas Break: 12/16/24-1/1/25
End: 5/2/25
At the conclusion of the year, if both parties agree, the ASC residency may be extended for a second year. Campus housing is provided July 1 through a maximum of May 31 each year unless the coordinator is invited to and commits to a second year of appointment.
In the Athletics Department at SWU we aim to focus on student-athlete development in four key areas: Spiritual Development, Academic Commitment, Player Development, and Service to Community. This can only occur when the staff are fully committed to serving students in these areas and in this order.
This is a very relationally-focused position. While the weekly hours of all Athletics Department employees are accountable to a measurable standard it is also expected that the ASC understands and is enthusiastically willing to work flexible hours. This will include various times of the day and evening, including some weekends, because college students are our work.
The ASC works from a 25 hour per week expectation. The remaining available hours each week are expected to be invested in a graduate degree program (at SWU or elsewhere) or part time job. Athletic Academic and Community Engagement Coordinator will assign the ASC job responsibilities in line with the needs of the department and the specific gifting of the ASC. These specific responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
