Athletic Trainers at Colby-Sawyer College oversee the prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, care and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions for student-athletes.
Responsibilities
Provide direct student health care services to varsity student-athletes (and club sport athletes when appropriate, as outlined in the Club Sport Policy). Includes assessment of injuries and medical conditions, establishing plan of care, and providing rehabilitative and/or preventive treatment for future encounters.
Facilitate student-athlete referrals as needed on a case by case basis.
Administer pre-participation examinations for all varsity student-athletes.
Work collaboratively in creating and implementing policies and procedures for the effective operation of the sports medicine clinic.
Provide athletic training services during scheduled varsity team practices and contests, including traveling with the teams, when appropriate.
Communicate effectively with coaches, student-athletes, faculty, parents, providers and others as necessary regarding the participation status of student-athletes.
Perform required record keeping and documentation for designated student athletes.
Evaluate and recommend new techniques or equipment that would enhance the benefit of the student-athletes and sports medicine clinic.
Work collaboratively in the maintenance and upkeep of the sports medicine clinic.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in athletic training or related field preferred.
Employees have the ability to obtain MSES or MBA through tuition remission benefit.
Current BOC certification in good standing and current New Hampshire licensure (or eligible for NH licensure).
Two or more years' experience as an Athletic Trainer at the college level, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
Current CPR for Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers/BLS for Healthcare Providers certification. Red Cross Instructor Certification in First Aid and CPR preferred. (Note: Preferred that 2 Athletic Training staff members will have instructor certification for first aid and CPR).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong technological skills a plus.
Physical requirements include ability to perform athletic training functions described above.
Ability to work a non-traditional schedule to meet the needs of students and teams; including evening and weekend events throughout the academic year.
Availability to travel with teams to championship events or spring break trips.
