Job Type Part-Time
The Athletic Trainer provides on-site coverage and injury care to student athletes under the guidance and oversight of the Head Athletic Trainer and direction of the University Health Services Physicians. As a part of the health care team, the athletic trainer provides injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, recognition, examination, and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. This is a full-time, 11 month position.
Clinical Care & Injury Prevention
Provide on-site coverage and injury care to student athletes during practice sessions and competitions, as assigned.
Perform initial management, clinical evaluation, and diagnosis of student athlete injuries.
Administer first-aid and emergency care as indicated.
Refer student athlete injuries for Team Physician evaluation where appropriate and clinically indicated.
Administer therapeutic interventions to treat or prevent student athlete injuries.
Design and/or implement rehabilitation programs for injured student athletes.
Apply protective or prophylactic taping, wrapping, padding or bracing.
Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
Administrative Management
Document evaluation and management of student athlete injury and illness in accordance with New Jersey Athletic Training Practice Act.
Schedule and coordinate student athlete referrals with Team Physicians or other relevant healthcare providers.
Maintain relevant injury communications with staff athletic trainers, team physicians, UHS clinicians, coaches and student athletes.
Assist with annual medical clearance process for returning and incoming student athletes.
Assist with maintenance of an effective and efficient athletic training room.
Training & Professional Development
Attends required staff meetings, in-services and trainings.
Attends continuing education opportunities to enhance professional growth and meet the continuing education requirements of the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer and New Jersey Athletic Training Practice Act.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
Master's or professional degree
1+ years experience
Must be a Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer.
Must be licensed (or be eligible to apply for licensure) to practice Athletic Training in New Jersey by the New Jersey Athletic Training Advisory Committee.
Must be certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Willingness to work nights/weekends/holidays and travel as required.
Be knowledgeable in principles and methodologies (e.g., Plan-Do-Study-Act, Root Cause Analysis, measurement, data collection, and analysis) needed to support and lead Quality Improvement projects and activities and/or willing to attend UHS-based Quality Improvement basic training within first 6-months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with health and wellness programs for athletes.
Experience in an NCAA Division I Athletic Program.
Training in health equity and other diversity and inclusion topics.
Familiarity with total work systems (such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, and Baldrige National Quality Program); and reviewing and analyzing data.
