Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Athletic Trainer position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).
This role provides medical care and health education to ensure the safety of, reduce the risk of injury to, and guide the rehabilitation of Brown student-athletes under the guidance of the Associate Director of Athletics, Sports Medicine. The position will serve as primary athletic trainer for sports as assigned, and will include some travel. Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing injury prevention services, such as pre-participation physicals, equipment fitting, and taping or bracing athletes.
Diagnosing and evaluating injuries and illnesses sustained by athletes
Developing and implementing rehabilitation programs to help athletes recover from injuries and return to play.
Collaborating with coaches, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to athletes.
Providing education to athletes, coaches, and parents about injury prevention, nutrition, and other health and wellness topics.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for athletes.
Ensuring that athletic facilities and equipment are safe and properly maintained.
Adhering to applicable legal and ethical standards related to healthcare and athletic training.
Providing emergency medical care as needed.
Conducting ongoing assessments of athletes to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Participating in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to athletic training.
Staying up-to-date on the latest research and techniques in the field of athletic training.
Contributing to the overall success of the athletic program by collaborating with coaches and administrators to support the athletic goals of the school or organization.
Ensuring that athletes receive appropriate care and treatment in a timely and compassionate manner.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree, required
RI Athletic Training License required (to be obtained prior to hire date).
Board of Certification “BOC” for athletic training NATABOC Certification, required.
Maintain BOCNATABOC Certification Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every reporting period, as required.
A minimum of one year of relevant athletic training experience is required.
Appropriate Emergency Cardiac Care certification as required by the BOC.
A manual therapy certification preferred.

Strong work ethic, passion for the profession and commitment to student-athletes
Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
Basic proficiency in excel, word, internet & email capabilities.
Experience with electronic medical records system, helpful.
All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the appropriate parties.
Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
