Grays Harbor College athletics invites applications for the position of Athletic Trainer. Under general direction of the Athletic Director, this position will develop, coordinate and administer a comprehensive sports medicine program for Grays Harbor College intercollegiate and intramural sports. The licensed Athletic Trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program. This position will also design and develop a training room including assessment of medical supplies.

This position is a 10-month position, August 1-May 31. Grays Harbor College has an excellent benefits package to include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, primary and supplemental retirement programs and long-term disability insurance. Full-time employees will also receive 15.34 hours of vacation leave per month, 8 hours of sick leave per month and 4 personal leave days a year. Washington state also observes 11 paid holidays per year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive sports medicine program for Grays Harbor College Athletics to include; prevention, assessment, management, and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
• Provide scheduled clinic hours for assessment and treatment of sports injuries, along with referrals to local physicians as appropriate.
• Provide medical coverage for both Grays Harbor College and visiting student-athletes at home sport events, with occasional travel to away events.
• Working with local physicians, determine return to play status and return to play progression for injured athletes.

• Provide medical coverage for both Grays Harbor College and visiting student-athletes at home sport events, with occasional travel to away events.
• Working with local physicians, determine return to play status and return to play progression for injured athletes.
• Work with Athletic Director with establishing safety protocols pertaining to emergency action plan, facility and environmental safety.
• Collaborate closely with coaching staff to design and implement personalized fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs, prioritizing student-athlete safety.
• Assist Athletic Director in the development of the sports medical program budget.
• Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that enhance the sports medical program.
• Coordinate the submission of all insurance claims.
• Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
• Complies with GHC policies, procedures and directives and state and federal regulations.
• Support and advance Grays Harbor College’s strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.
• Supervise, train, and mentor Student Athletic Trainer Aides.
• Occasionally instruct and/or teach sports related materials to the general student body, student-athletes, and/or community education classes.

Required Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, or Physical Therapy.
• One (1) to two (2) years of professional experience within an educational setting treating student-athletes
• Successful applicants will hold certification from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) prior treatment of students.
• Maintain State Athletic Training Licensure.
• Demonstrate familiarity with NCAA and/or NWAC governing rules.
• Exhibit strong organizational skills, adept at managing multiple assignments and meeting deadlines with precision.
• Ability to work constructively and collaboratively, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Embrace the responsibility of safeguarding the welfare and interests of students at all times.
• Operate in alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional goals.
• Demonstrate a steadfast commitment to nurturing an environment that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in athletic training or related field related field from an accredited institution.
• Two or more years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) providing sports medicine coverage for a collegiate athletic team in a comprehensive sports medicine environment.
• Athletic training experience with collegiate teams.
• Certification specialties in treatment of soft tissue injuries with manual therapy.
• Experience working with electronic injury surveillance and medical records programs.
• Strength and conditioning coach certification.
• Nutritional certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Conduct duties primarily outdoors, often amidst uncontrolled elements.
• Engage in physically active tasks.
• Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
• Transition between sedentary, standing, stooping, and walking positions frequently.
• Adherence to respiratory safety standards may be necessary.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Employment status as a Professional Exempt employee entails an annual 10- month contract subject to renewal at the start of each fiscal year.
• Maintain flexibility in work schedule, including regular availability during evenings and weekends.
• Travel to multiple campuses and off-site field locations may be required.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check is mandatory.
