TITLE: Athletic Trainer

HIRING SALARY: $41,921.37 - $49,886.57 annually; all salary calculations will start at the minimum

HOURS : 8:00 A.M. –5:00 P.M., Monday -Friday. Some weekends or evenings may apply.

MAJOR FUNCTION: The Athletic Trainer identifies injury risk factors associated with participation in competitive athletics and plans and implements all components of a comprehensive athletic injury program, which includes injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer will assist in the development of performance enhancement programs for the student athletes. Areas of performance enhancement include strength and conditioning, sports medicine, sports nutrition and mental health.The Athletic Trainer must provide services and care as directed by the College’s contracted physician. The Athletic Trainer must maintain a record of all medical events regarding the College’s student-athletes and report any new or recurring injuries or conditions. Related responsibilities include accurate and timely completion of accident injury reports, collection of information required for filing insurance claims, record-keeping for student athlete injuries and insurance, and the necessary follow-up and communication to close out treatment, treatment plans and insurance. Concurrently with the Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer must also provide annual medical insurance information to all student-athletes reviewing the College’s insurance policy and its coverages, the applicable reporting requirements, and the student-athlete’s contact information.

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Administers the overall health care of Tallahassee State College’s student-athletes. Coordinates and assists with pre-season physical examinations for all intercollegiate sports. Facilitates daily care, prevention, recognition, rehabilitation and administration of student-athletes’ injuries. Conducts initial evaluation of injuries sustained by student-athletes. Provides first aid and emergency care for injured student-athletes, to include massaging body parts to relieve soreness, strains and bruises. Refers student-athletes to a physician for definitive diagnosis and further medical treatment. Accompanies injured athletes to hospitals. Coordinates and schedules physical examinations, medical referrals, and follow-up visit(s) for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete. Applies protective or injury preventive devices, such as tapes, wraps, pads, bandages, braces, etc. to body parts. Maintains sterile environment when indicated. Provides healthcare information and counsels athletes, coaches, administrators, and when appropriate parents on matters pertaining to the physical, psychological and emotional health and wellbeing of the student-athlete.
