Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Trainer supports the medical needs for all 22 intercollegiate NCAA Division III sports and 2 Division I sports (men’s and women’s ice hockey). This person will be responsible for prevention, evaluation, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses associated with athletes involved in intercollegiate athletics. The incumbent will adhere to NCAA bylaws and policies, possess and maintain NATA-BOC certification, possess or be eligible for New York state licensure, travel, work weekends and odd hours, supervise student employees, and function under team physician oversight.

The incumbent will demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to University, department and NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, League and division rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the department are to be reported to the appropriate parties. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated track record of success. S/he should also have strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform administrative duties, write and implement policies & procedures, manage student employees, and maintain sports medicine facilities.
• Identify, assess, evaluate, mitigate, and manage student-athlete injury prevention and care including on and off campus/site venues.
• Implement rehabilitation and treatment programs for intercollegiate athletes and document appropriately.
• Provide injury risk management for athletes, preparing them for practice and competition via athletic stretching and supportive taping, bandaging and bracing as appropriate to individual student, sport and situation.
• Collect, compile, and facilitate athlete physical participation status forms, including orthopedic assessment to evaluate for risk management.
• Facilitate athlete referrals for care through physicians, surgeons, therapists, and specialists including proper insurance notification and directional assistance.
• Assist with the facilitation of the athletics drug and alcohol-testing program through athlete notification, oral fluid sample collection, documentation, and sample shipment for analysis.
• Monitor and mitigate environmental conditions for health and safety purposes.
• Participate on committees and professional development as appropriate.
• Other duties assigned by Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience (Athletic Training Degree, may also be obtained through a Master’s degree program)
• Board of Certification for Athletic Training
• New York State Athletic Training Licensure (or ability to obtain with 30 days of employment)
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certification Skills
• National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification
• Ability to foster relations with internal staff, team physicians, and student-athletes
• Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately
• Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural groups
• Computer proficiency using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions
• Willingness to engage in learning opportunities regarding Deaf Culture and conversational American Sign Language (ASL) PLEASE NOTE: The individual hired for this position will be required to have a pre-employment Motor Vehicle check, and the Motor Vehicle Report must clear RIT's Safe Driving Policy.
