The Athletic Trainer will administer athletic training services for the University’s varsity athletics programs. This role includes direct care, injury prevention, coordination with medical professionals, and administrative duties to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes. This is a 9-month position, with a contract period from mid-August to mid-May, and year-round benefits.

Administer a University-wide program for the prevention and care of athletic injuries.
Conduct an ongoing injury prevention program through conditioning, safety checks and formal instruction for student-athletes in injury prevention techniques
Provide direct care to student-athletes in care of injuries: identify, assess, and treat athletic injuries, including referral to physician and outside medical facilities as appropriate; manage injuries and rehabilitation under a physician’s direction; counsel student-athletes; fit with and instruct in use of braces, crutches and other medical equipment; prepare student-athletes for practices and competitions through the use of preventative taping, protection of previous injuries, giving special instruction, and other methods
Coordinate and approve student-athlete’s health documentation including physical exams, health history questionnaire and pre-participation form
Confer regularly with head coaches and other athletics personnel to plan, coordinate and evaluate programs and activities, and consult on specific student-athlete health issues
Maintain and operate athletic training room facilities and rehabilitation equipment
Administer an appropriate records documentation system for all varsity student-athletes; prepare various administrative reports
Remain current in athletic training methods and injury prevention techniques
Understand and comply with all University policies and procedures, and in particular, OSHA’s Blood borne Pathogen Standard
Attend conference and regional meetings, as needed
Train, supervise and evaluate athletic training students participating in the Athletic Training Education Program
Participate in a variety of athletics staff promotional activities, as well as fundraising and student recruitment initiatives
Perform other duties, as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training (Master’s degree preferred) or related field, National Athletic Trainers Association certification and membership and two to four years of relevant technical and administrative experience.
Broad-based technical knowledge and skills related to athletic training and sports injuries.
Proficient with program planning, administrative and supervisory skills.
Excellent teaching and counseling skills.
Ability to deal effectively with student athletes, coaches, physicians, and others outside the University system to carry out athletic training functions.
