Athletic Trainer

Reporting to the head athletic trainer, the athletic trainer is responsible for administering quality healthcare through practice and game coverage, injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment of new and pre-existing injuries, short & long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes, athletics- related health care administration and ensure compliance with NCAA legislation, the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, and Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. The Certified Athletic Trainer is the primary person to make decisions on the playing status of all athletes.

The Certified Athletic Trainer is accountable for the daily maintenance of the athletic training room and related equipment and supplies.

Essential Functions

  • Provide athletic training coverage at all assigned games, events, and practices.
    • This includes providing first aid care and acting in a first responder capacity as necessary, including the ability to provide emergency care for an extended period of time, such as providing quality CPR and stabilizing neck/spinal injuries without assistance from others until EMS arrives on scene.
    • This includes providing timely on the field/court evaluation of injuries, including the ability to provide immediate and effective injury management by arriving to the injured party swiftly to assess the situation and determine if emergency medical services (EMS) are required. If EMS is not required, the ability to assist the injured party in safely exiting the field of play is necessary.
