Reporting to the head athletic trainer, the athletic trainer is responsible for administering quality healthcare through practice and game coverage, injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment of new and pre-existing injuries, short & long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes, athletics- related health care administration and ensure compliance with NCAA legislation, the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, and Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. The Certified Athletic Trainer is the primary person to make decisions on the playing status of all athletes.

This includes providing first aid care and acting in a first responder capacity as necessary, including the ability to provide emergency care for an extended period of time, such as providing quality CPR and stabilizing neck/spinal injuries without assistance from others until EMS arrives on scene.
This includes providing timely on the field/court evaluation of injuries, including the ability to provide immediate and effective injury management by arriving to the injured party swiftly to assess the situation and determine if emergency medical services (EMS) are required. If EMS is not required, the ability to assist the injured party in safely exiting the field of play is necessary.

Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with planning, organizing, and directing the use of the athletic training clinics for care and treatment of student-athletes. This includes the enforcement of all applicable athletic training related policies and procedures.
Provide appropriate HIPAA compliant communication regarding medical conditions to the Head Athletic Trainer and members of the athletic department staff.
Verifying all necessary aspects of pre-participation paperwork and maintaining complete and accurate records of all services provided and all athletic injuries.
Assist student-athletes to safely return to activity after injuries. This includes evaluating acute and chronic athletic related injuries, creating individualized treatment and rehabilitation protocols for the management of acute and chronic sports-related injuries.
This includes the ability to provide manual therapy, which could involve physically strenuous tasks, such as providing resistance, stability or appropriate force for rehabilitation exercises for multiple patients in a short period of time.
This includes the ability to safely demonstrate rehabilitation exercises to model intended form as well as the ability to intervene and/or provide physical assistance and stability to the patient when necessary.
Coordinate care with the team physician and make referrals to other members of the healthcare team as necessary.
Review secondary insurance information and claims
Maintain daily upkeep of the athletic training room to comply with healthcare setting standards, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
This includes the ability to perform daily tasks, such as comprehensive cleaning/sanitation, which may be physically strenuous at multiple times throughout the day and/or in between patient encounters.
Maintain accurate inventory of supplies and place orders as needed with approval of the Head Athletic Trainer.

Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in athletic training or equivalent required. Master's degree preferred
Athletic training experience in the collegiate setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive injury evaluations, develop treatment and rehabilitation protocols, advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, generation of inventory reports, proficiency in injury tracking software and documentation of injuries.
Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community.

Physical Requirements
Communicates frequently, in person, over the phone, or via a computer. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communication. Regularly required to sit or stand for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a computer keyboard and provide multiple sessions of manual therapy throughout the course of a day. Operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
The ability to move safely yet swiftly (e.g. running/jogging, walking/jogging up and down stairs or hills) when necessary is required. The ability to lift 50+ pounds and physically assist injured parties in standing, sitting, or walking is required. The ability to handle physically strenuous tasks, such as providing emergency injury management (CPR, neck/spine stabilization) for prolonged periods of time.
Certification/Licensure
Current National Board of Certification Athletic Training Certification required
Current Pennsylvania Board of Medicine License in Athletic Training required
Current First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification

Should teleworking become necessary, employee must be willing and able to perform all parts of this job description while working from home, on campus or a combination, and be proficient or willing to become proficient in the technology needed to work remotely.
Night and weekend availability is required
