In collaboration with the communities in Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, El Monte, South El Monte, Whittier, portions of Norwalk, La Mirada, Downey, La Puente, the City of Industry, Los Nietos and Avocado Heights, Río Hondo College provides an exceptional academic curriculum to meet the unique needs of our region and strengthen our communities.
Under general supervision, to carry out a program for the care, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of physical injuries to athletes in the athletic program; and to do related work as required.
Evaluate athletic injuries and perform appropriate first aid. E
Refer athletes for indicated medical treatment. E
Schedule appointments with team physician and medical specialists. E
Provide follow-up treatment under physicians directions. E
Schedule and conduct athletic physical exams. E
Provide preventive taping and wrapping of injured areas. E
Render first aid and injury evaluation. E
Travel with teams to events. E
Maintain full medical chart record keeping system. E
Process all insurance forms and communicate with the College insurance company regarding athletic claims. E
Provide daily reports to coaches on status of athletes receiving treatment. E
Assist coaches in off-season conditioning. E
Assist in the proper fitting of protective athletic equipment. E
Operate whirlpool, ultrasound and exercise machines. E
Prepare the athletic training budget and maintain an inventory of supplies. E
Arrange for physicians and ambulance service at games. E
Accompany athletes to the hospital and communicate with an athlete’s family. E
Supervise student trainers and trainee specialist. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE
OF:
Modern and appropriate techniques and procedures to assist in preventing athletic injuries.
Preventive taping and wrapping of injured areas.
Symptoms of various injuries and the applicable first aid required.
Proper use of a variety of therapeutic machines and devices.
Conditioning and rehabilitation programs relevant to athletic injuries and illnesses.
ABILITY
TO:
Evaluate type and extent of injury and to administer first aid.
Operate comprehensive follow-up treatment and rehabilitation program as directed by physician.
Maintain complete medical records and prepare reports as required.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, coaches, students, and others contacted in course of work.
Completion of a four year college curriculum with specialization in the field of health education, physical education, or a related field.
Certification as an athletic trainer and two years of responsible experience training with athletes.
Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.
