This is a part-time position – works less than 20 hours per week – and is non-benefits eligible.
Assist the Division of Student Affairs by working with the Head Athletic Trainer/Director of Sports Medicine in developing and implementing the sports medicine program for cheerleading, mascots, Angelettes, and other selective competitive club sports. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and educational programs and counseling for student participants.
Assist with administering athletic training services (preventative, diagnostic, and rehabilitative) for the Division of Student Affairs, including attendance at scheduled team and individual practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
Assist with coordinating and scheduling physical examinations and medical referrals for student participants related to practice and/or competition.
Assist with coordinating and conducting all student participant welfare initiatives, i.e. sickle cell testing, concussion management screening and testing, and athletic nutritional programs, personal health and safety awareness programs, etc.
Responsible for complying with all Angelo State University and Texas Tech System policies, rules, and regulations.
Work with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student participant’s needs.
Keep accurate records and documentation regarding all injury assessments, evaluations (pre and post season), medical referrals, insurance information, rehabilitation, and treatment.
Communicate effectively with student participants, coaches, and parents of student participants, regarding all of the following: injuries, availability for practice and/or competition, surgery and/or options, payment, services provided, and coordination of insurance payments when necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of cheer, mascot, dance programs, and other selective competitive club sports.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Knowledge of medical care, prevention, and treatment of athletic injuries.
Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others.
Ability to perform the duties of a licensed/certified athletic trainer.
Skilled in both oral and written communication.
Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or a directly related field from an accredited regional university or college is required. A license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is required.
A Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or directly related field is preferred.
A certification by the
NATA
Board of Certification is preferred.
Requires intermittent sitting and prolonged periods of bending, standing, reaching, and carrying; Lifting objects up to 50 lbs. is also required; Medium level manual dexterity is necessary.
Works both inside and outside; Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions; Travel and weekend/evening work required.
